| Keytar I was wondering if anybody could tell me where I could find a keytar or suggest types of keytars to get. I like the yamaha SHS-10 that the lead singer off of mute math uses and I could try and get one of those off ebay but I was wondering if anybody else had any suggestions. It would also have to be able to plug in and im not sure how it works with those whether they have a quarter inch jack or an xlr input just tell me if you know. |

If I had a legitimate use for it I would SO be all over that one.

Mutemath uses the Roland SHS-101... the Yamaha one is not the same thing... also, you need a separate synthesizer for most (not the Yamaha or the Roland SHS-101).. the AX1 and AX7 (7 being the only keytar in current production) are only midi controllers... So you need a midi synth...

You plug the keytar into the sound thing, then that into an amp.
You need a MIDI cable to plug to the sound thing, then whatev.

| I'm not sure why Mute Math doesn't use something like THIS since the technology is available now. I'm sure that's not the only unit like it that's made. Then again, Paul Meany is REALLY hard on the gear that they use and there'd probably be reliability issues with that before long.

I was looking for one about a year or two ago and could only find really old used ones. That's pretty cool... and it's not that expensive, either. Too bad I have no money and no use for it right now.

| Showbread have inspired me to get a keytar and my band is using more and more keyboard in our music. I'd need something with piano, organ, some kind of airy wind instrument like panpipes or flute, string section and general buzzy sorta synth sounds for the songs that we have at the moment
im stil sorta confused as to how keytars work. could i just plug in a guitar lead and run it thru my guitar amp? or do i have to plug a MIDI cable into it, run it thru another kind of synthesiser cos most keytars dont actually have their own sound, and then thru a guitar or keyboard amp?
im interested in the roland AX-7 or AX-1 but theyre really expensive on ebay (more than $800) and i cant find them anywhere else
if i do have to buy a separate synth aswell then my chances of being able to afford one have just hit zero
the other problem is that roland have discontinued the AX-7 which was the only keytar currently in production that i know of |

My backing for this is that on the Showbread forum Josh was talking about who would do synths on this upcoming tour with JG gone: Quote: |
i'll go ahead and ruin your lives now... JG was down to one keytar that was mostly broken with one working octave left... since Roland has stopped manufacturing the AX, the price of used keytars has skyrocketed. there currently isn't a plan to use a keytar, being that they can cost up to a grand these days.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |

| Ok sorry for asking this(i feel a little like an idiot for asking.) But if the keytar isn't a midi controler style like the ax-7 (i'm getting a yamaha shs-10). Do you still have to plug it into a synth or can you just plug it straight into an amp? I'm new to the whole thing cause i've been playing guitar for forever so i'm trying to learn everything I need to learn. Thanks guys. |

| As far as I can tell, the SHS-10 should be able to plug direct into an amp. |
