Question Do any of y'all use a drum machine?

Hey y'all.... I've got an Alesis SR-16 drum machine, and I love it! Usually, I use it for practicing and songwriting... but it's a lot of fun to just pick a pattern and start jamming. I've tried using it in church before.. but nobody else could stay on tempo with it. I did use it on mission trip last year though.. which was cool. Anyone else in here using a drum machine for anything?

I don't have a drum machine, but I run loops of my laptop using a program by sonic foundry called "Acid." It works pretty well, but like you said ... it's hard to pull off live unless you have a really good drummer that can stay on beat with it.

I've got an older, weaker version of ACID that I got from GC for $0.00 through a rebate offer. ..... I've never thought about using it for P&W though. (of course, I don't have a laptop...so that's another problem)

Is there anyway to change patterns during the song? It always seemed to me like ACID was so sterile.... you set up however many measures of loops you want and then hit play. Kinda like you're stuck into whatever you've previously set up.

I also have the Alesis SR-16. It's pretty cool and seems to be very versatile. I've mostly just used the presets so far and haven't learned to program it enough to use it to its full potential.

BluesJunkie,

You have GOT to learn to program that sucker!! Seriously, the presets are great and all.... but nothing beats being able to actually MAKE whatever kind of rhythm you're looking for. If you ever need any help messing with it... feel free to ask!

yes it was... I had to hit the buttons like I was playing... I never really learned how to program it. When I talked to real drummers (or even met real drummers) it was embaresing.
