Declaw operation gone wrong?

My cat's about 6 years old now, and when he was a kitten, my parents, being of the "furniture is more important than the well-being of a living creature" mindset, had him declawed (which had a very negative effect on him, but anyways). Recently I noticed what looks like a claw lodged in one of his toe pads. I tried pulling it out, which didn't work, so I trimmed it to reduce the chances of it being caught on something. Since then, it seems to have grown, and seems to be causing him a lot of pain. Has anyone had this problem before? Is it serious enough to require a vet visit? I've been wanting to take him to the vet but I don't have any money, and the only way I could get there would be to take a bus and try to conceal him in my backpack without hurting him, so I'd like to be sure first. Any advice?

OH NO!!!! I fell so sorry for your poor little kitty!!!! (am i a cat lover? OH YES!!!!) I'm not sure about the condition but i've heard that declawing is a fairly risky thing. i think if you can work up some money you can get it fixed. I'll pray for him and you

love,
acura

Update!

I brought it up to my parents again, and (much to my surprise) they said they'd be willing to take him in, so I'll be calling the vet's office tomorrow and we'll see what they can do. Thanks for the reply!

Haven't been able to call the vet yet, but he seems to be getting better. I'm keeping a close eye on him, though.
