| just thought that the USC fans might want to see this: its a post off of a buckeye sports board i go to..... interesting. Quote:
I will say that this is the second year in a row I have went to the Outback Bowl and if the buckeyes have another mediocre season next year and end up playing USC in the bowl, I will not attend.
Their fans are by far the worst and most shamefully classless fans I have ever seen. Not only did several USC fans get right in some old OSU fans faces after the game and start screaming about being 2-0 in bowls but those fans could not do anything without being as obscene as they could get. I am talking about 20 years olds stalking 70 year old and threatening to "throw them down".
I was sitting in an all OSU section that bordered an all USC section. There was some taunting back and forth but the worst any OSU fan did was to wave a dead rubber chicken at them. I can't name you all of the sexually vulgar comments the SC fans chanted as a group the entire game.
I have lived in Michigan for 15 years. I also lived in tennessee for 4 years. I have always thought that UT and UM had the most obnoxious and arrogant fans out there. But I am telling you USC is an embarrassment to the SEC. And why on earth they have such arrogance is beyond me. First of all it is a tad embarrassing to even brag about winning the Outback Bowl but after going 1-10 and 0-11 just 2 and 3 years ago, they should be grateful to even have a program.
One more thing, Tressel has done a great job of toning down the taunting and celebrating from the players. I didn't see anything unsportsman like from the OSU players especially on that last INT by Grant.
However, Lou Holtz is a supposed strict disciplinarian. His players were taunting and waving at the crown all game even before the up coming kick off after our last TD. Naturally they are never penalized but I can still say after yesterday, I am sooooo glad I was born in Columbus and not Columbia!

| well, i am, somewhat a USC fan, (unlike the rest of my family) even though i lack the time to keep up with the games and all. This year I have especially taken a neutral stand on the issue, mainly because of a certain quarterback who i am ashamed to say is an alumni of my highschool. My sister always talks about how much of a "un-nice guy" Petty is, and how he is filled with pride and boastfulness. Anyway, the point is, i don't approve of the way some of the players boast about their suprisingly successful season this year, but i know thats gonna be a problem with any team. And about fans, your gonna have ingorant fans like that at any team, and though I may wear the USC symbol on a hat everyonce in a while, i by no means endorse that behavior.

| Let me just say that the "fans" that this OSU fan saw were in the minority. As Brandon said, there will be fans like that for every team, even OSU. USC (and OSU, too, I'm sure) has it's share of drunken idiots at each game, but that's not at all anything new or unexpected. However, the majority of USC fans are some of the most loyal, respectful, and courteous fans you will find anywhere. I take that from personal experience. The idiots are going to be at every game, no matter where, no matter what conference, no matter what team....they are at every game. Some may stand out to you more than others because they are the opposing team...as I feel was the case for this person. Had they been OSU fans he/she probably wouldn't have said anything, but that's just a hunch. The drunken idiot OSU fans were at the game, too, I'm most positive; just not sitting right next to them as the USC drunken idiots were.

| Tell that guy to come sit in the student section at a USC game. WE are the REAL USC fans. My best friend is a freshman at Clemson (our hated upstate rival, think Michigan) and attended the USC/Clemson game in Columbia with me in November. Granted, there were maybe three "f' Clemson" comments along the way (out of a good 15,000 Gamecock fans we walked past) but when we found some seats we ended up having a great time in a sea of garnet and black. In fact he ended up joking around with some of the USC fans during the game and later debated a fellow Clemson fan who had an altercation with a USC fan by saying positive things about our fans.
USC is one of the biggest tailgating schools in the country so fans come to the games intoxicated. It's these guys (who often aren't affiliated with our school in any way but for some reason latch on to USC athletics b/c they live in the state and 'need' a team to pull for) who yell at 70 year olds. They don't deserve to call themselves "Gamecocks".
I've personally heard of MUCH worse in other places: My neighbor is in the USC band and was pelted with ICE, which cut her face, when we played at Kentucky in 2000. That, my friends, is revolting. If you'd like I can give more examples of fans from other schools, but that's not my style. I'm sure that was a minority of UK fans, who don't represent that institution or its supporters rightfully either.
Those things don't happen at our games. If anything, we deserve some of the success and respect we're finally getting and it makes me sick to hear someone chastize the majority of fans due to the reputable actions of a minority. ESPN's Gameday crew had nothing but praise for our fans as a whole. We're the only team in the country who could go 0-11 and average a sell out for the season, thus ranking in the top 10 in attendance (this following a 1-10 season!). We're some of the most dedicated fans in the nation, the problem with that is you get some drunken, classless rednecks who act like morons (because they ARE morons).
99% of our fans, trust me I've been to all but 2 home games in my 2 years as a student at USC, treat the opposing fans/team/band with respect. I'm one of the most passionate fans you'll meet and am disgusted to hear of any school's fans attacking or running down another's (particularly when the instigators are USC fans). Anyone who thinks we're the most "shamefully classless fans" needs to realize that those people don't truly represent the ideal of being a Carolinian. Any so-called Gamecock who unjustly verbally attacks someone is my antagonist as much as the victim's. To finish this rant, I feel sorry for this OSU fan's experience and am saddened when a minority of idiots end up representing the majority of decent people. Thank you.

| GAMECOCKS ARE NOT RUDE!!! I agree totally with these other loyal gamecocks who are defending our awesome fans.
Every team has their showboaters and USC is one of those teams. You want to see showboating... try looking at Miama or another team! When you have talented non-believers, there is always the chance that someone is going to act like a hot-shot.
I play Varsity football in HS... we have them here too!
As for the fans.... well, there is no excuse for their behavior.... but, they are not the people who come out on freezing cold Saturdays and, even when their team goes 0-11, sticks around until the end!! As for whoever wrote the first post about how our team...
"First of all it is a tad embarrassing to even brag about winning the Outback Bowl but after going 1-10 and 0-11 just 2 and 3 years ago, they should be grateful to even have a program."
WHO CARES!!! WE HAVE TURNED IT AROUND AND NOW WE ARE A GREAT TEAM!!!! We won our first bowl game in many years and you expect us to not be happy about it???? My high school beat our cross town rivals for the first time in school history (9 yrs) last year... WE WERE EXCITED!! We could have lost every other game, but we would stimm count that season as a great season just because we beat the rival!!
But...... this was probably a person who was mad that the Gamecocks beat OSU for the second time in a row!!!

| Food for thought... GuyforGod didn't make those statements himself, they were posted at an OSU site (though I have no confirmation of this alleged post )... Just kidding, Brian
On another note, our mascot's name is 'Cocky', maybe that explains it all... Ahh well... |
