I like it, but some of it gets a little annoying after a while.

Sadly I'm so out of touch with Christian music I couldn't name you any bands. The one I can think of off the top of my head is defunk death metal band Death List. They put out one really good recording, but it was their only one. Paramecium was a great band too.

I don't know if they're "death metal" anymore, but Mortification will be remembered as one of the greats.

I'm sure there's a lot of modern bands I just don't know the names of.

The best band I can think of is Aletheian and the best CDs are Living Sacrifice's Nonexistant and Inhabit.

I happened to listen to some death metal band named Kronos, and they sounded like cavemen. Mortal Treason and LS do sound better, but not that great.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

I've got both of those. There's a band that only got better with each recording. While I'm not into metalcore or whatever it was they were at the end, they were very, very, very good at it. The last LS disc I got was Reborn and while I don't care for metalcore (or whatever it is), Reborn was a very good CD.

Got to see them in DFW when DJ was still with the band. I don't know if this is how he played bass or if he was having equipment problems that night and just didn't care, but all he did was just beat on his bass all night. If I knew to count them, I could probably have counted the number of times his left hand actually moved from the open position and went down the neck.

He was having equipment trouble that night and that might have had something to do with that unless somebody can verify that he never really played the bass but just beat on the strings.

What would you describe as 'Death Metal', as I've heard that a definition of death metal is metal that has vocals about the occult. Surely there can't be such a thing as Christian death metal by definition, unless they are singing about Jesus defeating the devil and the occult.

I was never into death metal but I do own some early Christian stuff on cassette. Vengeance Rising was the first band I heard doing a Christian take on this kind of music. They were okay but the production on the albums really stunk. Mortification were a little better but the vocals really wore me down after a few listens. I don't know if Betrayal count but they may be the best I've heard of the earlier bands. I don't know anyone recent.

I like living sacrifice, especially from reborn on. (the hammering process is my favorite).

I did grow up listening to mortification, vengance rising, extol, etc etc etc...

One of the most disturbing christian concerts I've ever seen in my life was Vengeance Rising. I left there with a lot of questions.

I'm sure there are a few bands that fit your description, but MOST death metal bands are lyrically clean.

When Bruce took over vocals they became metalcore, not death. I hated DJ's vocals myself. Extol isn't really death metal either.

To the person wondering what death metal is, I guess you'd just have to say that it's super heavy metalcore. Listen to some of the bands mentioned to find out.
