I checked wikipedia, and my estimation seems to be correct. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vengeance_Rising
I like Burial era Extol, Living Sacrifice, and several other bands. Lengsel was pretty good as well, IIRC.
I am never quite sure when a band hits each subgenre of metal, but I know numerous albums in my library would be labled death metal.

He owns the name and puts out satanic music under it now. The other original members have recently regrouped with a new vocalist. I think they call themselves Once Dead. |

Thats what I was told. I don't know a date on that, but I doubt I was going to many metal shows yet.
hence I can picture their shows getting rather disturbing with a wolf in sheep's clothing in the front man position.

I left there going "I don't know about this and it being supposedly Christian." Then a year or so later Roger goes off the deep end and renounces Christ and everything. I looked back on the concert down in Deep Elum, Dallas and went "huh." |

Roger claims to have all this new music and he's supposedly wrote a song to counteract every song he ever wrote as a believer. I can mostly believe that because I had the sickening "pleasure" to read some of his new lyrics on one of his old websites. It was very, very sad.
The funny part; there's been no new music to go with it. All he ever says (from what little I've ever cared enough to read) is that new music is on the way, new music is on the way, new music is on the way. But it hasn't happened yet.
He brags about how much money he makes now and how liberated his life is and he cusses and blast every person he used to know, but there's no new music.
I wonder about him sometimes. I was in contact with another musician in the Christian metal world one time and this person told me that when they worked with Roger, he gave the apperance of being one of the most selfish persons to be who ever claimed to be a Christian. It was also added that we should continue to pray for Roger that he finally sees the light someday. |

The first time I saw them was in West End and a place that was more a hole in the wall than anything. The place in Deep Ellum was at least bigger and mostly nicer.
If I remember, this Door place might have been across the street. |

Roger's turn toward atheism came about after he convinced himself that God should have preserved the autographs of the Bible. As he supposedly sought out the oldest and most accurate texts he decided that the Bible was no longer reliable because God was not powerful enough to preserve it in its original form.
He later had some issues with his label, ex-bandmates, and some high profile evangelists that turned him against Christians. He became very hostile and unforgiving. That, along with his doubts concerning the Bible's authenticity, led him to a very dark place. |

| Death Metal has always seemed to be generic and overly concerned with appearance to me... There are two extremes that I can't handle and both are because of the emphasis on appearance and lack of originality and that is Death Metal and Boy Band Pop.... Both generally give off shallow lyrics, boring music, and vocals that get under my skin... Yes... I did just compare Death Metal to Boy Band music... hate me for it... but in all honesty... it sucks...
I love good hard music... I love Hardcore/Post-Hardcore/Some Screamo so don't tag me as not liking heavy music... I just hate the constant pulse of the stuff... It's all generic and boring...
