Cool Marching band!

Come on!
You guys that are in band know that marching band is way more challenging than just about any sport.
And DCI? Most of the athletes I know couldn't handle ONE DAY in a corps.

I've heard this argument for a very long time and I have to say that it is bunk. Marching band is physically challenging... Yes the uniforms are hot and some instruments are heavy... But to say that it is more physically challenging than football is crazy. It's logically insane...

I know a guy who used to go to a very small high-school, he played varsity football and during half-time he marched with the band in his pads... He's said on many occasions that if he had to choose he'd choose band over football because it was easier... (he played tuba btw)...

Band may be more challenging simply because you have to be able to play your instrument while marching in a pattern... I honestly can say that I don't have that kind of concentration.

But do not say that it's more physically challenging until you run up and down a field and slam into each other running as fast as you can for almost an hour....

I didn't specify physically, you did. And I don't know if it is different where I go to school because it is a larger school, but I have friends who quit band for football because they couldn't handle band. (Our guys have to choose because of time limitations, unless they are freshmen.)
Being in marching band is more mentally taxing and at times more physically challenging as well. (Notice I said AT TIMES.) Can you march over 120 in perfect step without missing your spot while staying in form and having enough air support to play the correct notes that are needed without passing out afterwards?

To be fair football players don't play a hour straight. You've got about an 8 second play...and then a 15-30 sec. break sometimes. Sure a lot of times it's pretty continuous such as no-huddle and it's all out sprinting.

Also I haven't been in Marching band, but I've been in regular band playing the trombone. I have played football (and basketball, & soccer). I'd actually argue that soccer is more physically challenging than football. But I guess neither is really the "hardest", they're just different.

But I would have to agree that Marching Band seems like it would be very challenging both mentally & physically.

People underestimate the mental game of football.

And marching band is not a sport.

Hmm.
I'm not going to get into personal beliefs here but some people would say that marching band is a sport.
If you're trying to argue against what I previously said then the argument that "marchcing band isn't a sport" doesn't help you, for I did not say that it was.
I said "more challenging than just about any sport." If I had said 'than just about any other sport', then could be a valid argument.
