[B]eddie van halen. the best of them all hands down. most of the guitarists have talent, but are not the best. here is a short list of the best:

Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen
Kirk Hammit - Metallica
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin
Eric Clapton (not from Cream, just Clapton)
Slash - Guns N' Roses
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Russ C. - Zao
how did i forgot Van halen!he is great,
I forgot guns and roses and zao and metallica 2,but they are not like vna halen.\\
im agree with what u said about nirvana,i dont say he is awful player, but not another "Beatle"
Try some of their songs and c how easy it is.

Not to get into any kind of scuffle, but that has to be one of the meanest things ever.

I don't like their music, but I concede, Trey Anastasio (sp?) from Phish can play.

I'm not a huge fan of his style, but Jimi has got to be the most talented guitar player on my list...after him come Eric Johnson, Beatles, maybe Stevie Ray...

Hmm lets think who doesn't belong in there... The Beatles! WHY? We are talking about best gutarist not catchiest tunes that people liked the most back in the day.

The Beatles were quite good. George was the only one with any technique, but all of them, excluding Ringo, came up with really cool and original guitar parts and had a lot soul in their playing. While they weren't shredders, they had the ability to take what knew and turn it into something spectacular.

I disagree, but even so this thread is not about the "quite good" guitarist.

I put the Beatles on my list, not b/c they were the absolute most talented (although many of their songs have talent), but b/c of their influence of all of rock music...I bet there's not one rock band today that hasn't been influenced in some way by their music. And not only did they do all that, they also were original, there wasn't much rock music before them to be influenced by, making their job that much harder.
So even if they can't run the fretboard as fast as other guitarists, give 'em some credit...

PleasuresPain---

i don't know who you are or how much you really know about music, probably enough by your choices for best guitar players, but seriously man, chill out on the knowledge-bashing-- not everyone has the same appreciation for music as you-- some people have *gasp* different points of view than you, and i think we all should respect each others' opinions, which you don't seem to think you have to do(for one that tells people to graduate from junior high).

ok-- now that i got that off my chest--

my favorite guitar player is the guy from incubus-- no matter how untalented and "pop-y" Pleasurespain thinks he is, because i've never heard one band come up with so many different sounds over the years in the history of their own band. i have every incubus title that came out (besides one, that's only on vinyl) and no two incubus cd's have sounds remotely similar to each other, if you really know how to appreciate difference in musical atmospheric quatlities.

now that's MY two cents

I certainly appriciate all they have started, but that in no way make their guitarist the best ever! haha!

Woah, take a breath, add some periods!

I am 19 and know enough about (good) music.
I am well aware that people have other viewpoints, but I reserve the right to say they are wrong.

I will respect that opinion, although I certainly disagree, because you phrased it correctly. You said "favorite" guitarist, and not "best."

an opinion on a subject like this can't be wrong, there is never going to be a singular greatest guitarist in everyone's minds. So you don't have the right to say they are wrong Travis, you do have the right to disagree though.

So if my opinion is that I am the best guitarist of all time, that is not certainly wrong?
