| AIM (tm) is bloated crapware, at least the last version I used was.
Gaim is much nicer. Open source (free), cross platform (Windows/Linux), tabbed IMing, handles popular IM protocols (AIM, Yahoo, etc).

Besides, I don't use Windows, so I'd have to go through the trouble of running the junk through Wine or something.
