youtube VBCode

seeing how youtube has gotten so popular, can we get a VBCode tab that would allow you to provide a link to a youtube video and it be embedded in a post?

No, because embedded video is not currently allowed on CGR.

Wait. I was thinking about Signatures.

So I guess it is allowed.

But I wouldn't support it personally. But I hate waiting for stuff like that to load if it is not the reason I am in the thread.

the way youtube works, it loads like a picture but then you click it and it loads the video, totally optional.

It would be technically possible (I've seen it on other boards and I'm sure there are numerous Vbulletin plug ins for it). The issue would be if it would cause any delay in page load (particularly for our dial up users). The embedded video won't start unless you wanted it too; I'm just concerned that the video player itself may cause a delay.

And in any event, how hard is it to click a link? Personally, I'm glad nothing pops up, because I very, VERY rarely click video links.

The problem isn't so much the YouTube videos, but the E M B E D tags that are required to insert them into an HTML page. The word is censored because of trouble caused by people using it before to wreak havoc on the boards.

Exactly why the OP is talking about adding a special vb code for it. Similar to the quote tag or bold tag vb uses.

Yes, video of any kind takes a while to load on dial-up, embedded or not. In fact, you would be amazed at just how slow it can make the computer as a whole process if you are trying to load video on my computer. Ads are bad enough.

Well... the embedded video doesn't actually load until you click play (that's the way youtube has it set up at least), so you wouldn't have to worry about the video loading as well as the page load. The problem would be how bad the embedded player itself loads.
