| I used to play violin, and my suggestions for a beginner would be to just practice, even if you don't have a teacher. You can practice playing one string at a time (which can be a lot harder then it looks!) and if possible, learn a few notes on her own. |

| I've been playing violin for over 11 years and my suggestion concerning learning how to play violin is to take lessons no matter what. There are fundamentals that must be taught and learned early so that development will occur. Improper posture, bowing, etc. will only slow you down as you try to advance in your playing. I learned to play in the school system starting in 5th grade. In 7th I started taking private lessons. Your advancement and ability will greatly improve with private lessons…
My 2 cents.

| yeah lessons are a must.
I took lessons for almost a year and it was hard. guitar is like a cakewalk because on a violin you have to hit the notes accurately every time. on a guitar you have more room for error because of the frets. there are techniques that are very important that you could not learn on your own. |

| Well actually fiddle is easier by far. the only difference is technique. the violin you have to be much more accurate no note adjestments allowed. fiddling is easier because you can miss a note by a bit and slide to it. |

| i've been playing my violin for 5 years with my school orchestra, and you should definitely take lessons. there is soo much going on while you play. finger positions (we're talking pinpoint accuracy or your noticeably out of tune or you get the dreadded "squeak of doom"), bow movement ( startaight line, not to close to the bridge or fingerboard), rhythms, putting your fingers and bow in sync, and lots more |

| Lessons are a yes. Violin is not a hard instrument, but it is not an easy one. I took two and a half years private lessons, and since then have been sawing away on my own; if you put it down for even a little while, it's not like guitar, you have to work to be as good as you were before.

| Yeah, I think lessons are important, especially for the first few years. Once you get past learning a lot of the basics you can go further, but it always helps to have someone more experianced around to help out!

| yeah, ive been playin guitar for about 3 years, and about 4 months ago i started taking violin lessons. and i dont about anybody else's opinions, but i think playing violin is a lot harder than the guitar. i still havent quite got the hang of it, whereas on i got the hang of the guitar fairly quickly.

#14 | | Guest | learning the vioin I have been playing the violin for 20 years now, and I play it professionally. I think it is essential to take lessons. You need to find a teacher who is good at teaching beginners, as teaching beginners is much harder than teaching more advanced students.
Playing the violin is one of the hardest things to do in life than anything else I can think of. A good violinist can make playing the violin look easy, but violin technique is actually very complicated. | |
