yeah, it sucks... but trust me- it'll be fine. Girls will come and go, man.

So this is the typical Christian advice, but really... devote yourself to God during this time in your life and really seek Him in everything. That's harder to do than say, but it's so wonderful when you can. And you won't regret it like you might getting involved with any girl.
there have been times when I seek after Christ and times when I seek after girls and I'd rather pick Christ. Don't fret... you got your life ahead of you, man.

Although... perhaps it will be our face to His feet.

Ya fro mwhat I've seen of younger teens dating, most "relationships" last a week to 2 months and then they are over. What's the point? And also the younger you start, the longer you have to wait, the more chances you have of making mistakes. And every time you want to date a girl, ask yourself if she is the kinda girl you wanna marry, if not then just be friends. There's no point getting your heart broken over and over.

middle school dances are stupid. boys sit down around the perimeter, girls are in the middle not knowing what they're doing. a slow song comes up, everyone is like OMGSH and..argh its just stupid.
...my highschool isn't like that... yes, the SnoBall was a lot of fun... but the guys still sit around and talk and the girls make "eye-candy" out of themselves for the guys who have nothing better to do that fantasize about them all night. Those things don't ever change...middle school, high school...

there is nothing wrong with dancing...but approach your actions with a Christ-like mindset

btw... i realize that this post doesn't answer the topic of the original post... and as the dance is already over i thought I'd give my $0.02 on the "dance" scene

Ok, I understand it's over with. But for future refrence:
I'm homeschooled now. I went to public school untill high school and have been homeschooled for the past couple years. You didn't/won't miss anything by not going to public school dances. Even if you go "as friends" there's so much more you can do with your time and many more fun things you can do as "friends". The school isn't really the best place to do that.
I know what you mean by "being 14 sucks" but just go with it and enjoy it.
Stick with your parents advice right now, generally they know what they're doing. If ya wanna talk anytime feel free to PM me.
