Electric players-Pedal recommendations

I am going to start using pedals. At church, we play modern stuff like Crowder, Tomblin, shane shane, mercy me, hillsong, etc.

So, if you can only have 5 pedals on your board for this application, what would they be? what brand would they be?(excluding volume pedal, tuner, and power supply)

What type of effect do you want? Gotta know what kind of effect you want before blindly throwing out names of reverbs to phasers to ring modulators.

-Overdrive. The two most popular ones around here are the VS Jekyle and Hyde and the Fulltone Fulldrive 2
-Delay. I like my Boss DD-20. It has an LCD screen as opposed to the line 6 dl-4
-Reverb. A good one
-Another overdrive
-and a wah

Ok, 5 pedals:

Assuming I could play through a Vox AC30...

Then the rig would be like this:
Guitar > Vox V847 or Morley wah > VS Jekyll and Hyde > AMP > TC Electronic Stereo Chorus Flanger > Line 6 Echo Park or Boss DD-20 > EHX Holy Grail

Though I'm thinking that I'd actually rather use my PODxt Live.

Plus some of the pedals I listed are rather pricey.

They would be whatever 5 pedals I thought were most helpful for me.

You need to figure out what you want. You don't just buy "pedals." You buy distortions, or delays, or flangers, or something. If your mindset is, "I want to buy a pedal," you're probably going to end up with something you don't need/use.

Ok, songman I am seriously jealous right now of your guitar. I've been wanting an Ernie Ball Silohoutte for years, and never been able to find one.

The effects you will need will depend on your amp. You deffenetly will need the Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeuler, Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive or Fulltone Fulldrive 2 for an OD, Dunlop 535Q, MXR Phase 90, and then find an expieremental pedal that you like.

ROFL..."what you need will depend on your amp...but you're definitely need all of these" NICE!

Right now I run five pedals in my signal chain:

Boss TU-2 tuner-->Dunlop Crybaby Wah (GCB-95)-->Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde Overdrive-->Danelectro Tuna Melt Tremolo-->Boss DD-5 Digital Delay.

Now...are any of these stompboxes "essential"? No way. I use them to add onto my sound. I probably use the delay the most, but the only one that's ultimately important is the tuner...haha.

Seriously, if you have no idea what you want, unless you want to just mess around with pedals, you'll probably just end up buying things you don't need.

Tru dat.

I'd be fine with just guitar and amp for most gigs.

Thanks! I'm suprised that 20th Silo can be recognized outside of EBMM kingdom. Having said, you too have a very nice guitar you self.

My Amp is Reverend Goblin.
It's a 5-15watt switchable.

You can get most of the sounds from the bands you listed with...In order of importance
1)mid heavy drive pedal (Ibanez TS9 or one of it's many clones get a great sound)
2)delay pedal... preferably w/ tap tempo (Echo Park is very flexable & easy to use)
3)Wah (Morley is very easy to use)

If your going to grow your pedal selection more than this... do so based on your own style.

ok, here goes...
distorion/overdrive: i'd second the visual sound Jeckle & Hyde cause i know visual sound makes great gear and i hear that it has a ts-808 clone in it. i own the ts-808 and its rocks.
chorus/delay: the chorus i own is actually the visual sound H2O, but i'm not sure i would recommend it. don't get me wrong, it sounds amazing, but it has a delay built in that doesn't have tap tempo. the delay is also amazing, but almost useless in a live setting. so i say go for a boss dd-6 (delay) and a seperate chorus pedal.
wah: deffinantly a good thing to have. i say go for the george dennis GD-30, only because i hear it is better than the morely wahs for clean/funk sound (which you would probably use more of in church). it also has the step on/step off switch.
EQ: i'd say go for the boss Ge-7, but if you can't afford it, i'll bet a danelectro fish n' chips would work fine. i've heard good things about them

that's all the pedals i can reccomend from my research, but some other ones you might consider:
phaser
A/B/Y switch
a footswitch for your amp
reverb

I would just want overdive and delay, although overdrive isn't all that necessary if you can get what you want out of your amp.

well, you need to know what you want to spend.

I would recommend a good overdrive pedal, the J&H's ($140) are nice, but I'd go with a sparkle drive ($130) or a Homebrew electronics powerscreamer, they're just really rich across the entire gain spectrum. ($120)

Then I'd get a clean boost, because they can help w/ clean sounds and overdrives... Custom Audio electronics teamed up with mxr to make a nice one (the mc-401, $100) or you could get something a little nicer in a Keeley Katana Boost ($180)

A compressor would be next... I'd go with the Keeley, it's just the best. ($220)

Then a Wah, my favorite of the low-end, non-boutique stuff is the Dunlop classic w/ fasel inductor ($100)

Finally, a delay; honestly I've tried TONS of these, and I'm a huge DL-4 fan, don't really care for the DD-20 (though there are others on here who affirm the opposite) $250.

Obviously, this is if money isn't too tight. :-)

+1 on these two
I feel that overdrive, however, is very important to add little grit and give a mid range boost to cut through the rest of the band at times.

The only reason I added wah to my list is because The David Crowder Band uses them creatively & extensively. (a whole lot more than I do)
