Band List

Is it possible to have a list of bands by genre here? I dunno if you mods want to do such work, but I think it'd be really nice for browsing.

This seems like a lot of work. But put the following down for dynapop: (the theory of) Sean Chandler and the Amazing Skasmonauts.

I'm thinking it's doable.

I'm thinking have a list of the artists (linking to their thread, I think) with their genres listed underneath, then have the list of labels on the top of the list, and each label links to a refreshed page with the "&highlight=genre" tag added.

Ex:
Dynapop

It would take a lot of work, though. *shrug*

Something that might lighten the work load is if you only include artists who post in this thread and tell you what genre their music is and post a link to their thread.

I'll do it, but I can't go through all the threads. I will sort the threads by number of replies and do the first three pages. I will use the genre from each band's myspace, purevolume or other such webpage. If I can't find a genre listed for them, I'll use one at my own discretion. If anyone who doesn't make it wants to be on it, they will have to post in this thread. The same goes for any band that doesn't like the genre I put them in. Sound good?

this sounds great. It will keep the genre naming fairly simple hopefully. It probably be good also if you forced bands to pick from a genre set in order to have some semblance of order and prevent users from say stuff like, "well...I'd say my band is "southern indie-folk jazzcore".

it might even be useful to try to condense and confine each band to a single genre. It may seem really limiting but it would lend to usefulness...a sub-genres or secondary genres could be noted parenthetically.

For example:
Alternative:
Your Favorite Band (punk/grunge)

of course, I'm just throwing that out there...as I look at it, I can definitely see that there are ways to improve it that I can't grasp at the moment.

Ok, well I did it in a way which I think is good and which wasn't a whole lot of work. It's stickied at the top of the forum. If any other mod would like to alter it, then go for it; but don't screw it up because it's alphabetized and stuff.

it was mentioned in this thread, so I'll go ahead and ask here, but what the heck is dynapop? Did you guys just decide to coin your own genre of pop? It doesn't show up on google...at least not in the first several pages.
