Here's the find of a life time!

This is a centenial vintage Martin O-42
it's birthday was Feb 7, 1902

serial number 9387 stamped on end block and end of peghead: circa 1902!

this was the top of the Martin in 1902, predating the 45 series by one and half years; this is only one of 20 made in this year!!!
hand written date on underside of the top!!! 7 February 1902 and initialed (by Frank Henry Martin?)

Martin stamp on back of headstock and on inside back center seam strip

Adirondack top; exceptionally fine; several cracks (see detail of top) that have tiny spruce studs reinforcing
exceptionally nice Brazilain back and sides with very straight grain; several side cracks professionally repaired; side finish touched up over cracks

Spanish cedar neck with original long "dart" volute

ivory binding on body and fingerboard (abalone side dots)
ivory heel cap, end strip, nut
ivory tuner buttons (not the Handel celluloid)
original German silver highly engraved tuner plates (definitely the nicest I've ever seen!)

original bar frets
exquisite green abalone style 42 inlay around top, end of fingerboard and rosette
ebony internal side reinforcement (not cloth)
X-braced top, original small maple bridge plate; back has original five (not four!) braces

there is some debate on the finish on this one; after near forensic testing and black lighting, several experts have offered opinions ranging from "sides touched up but original otherwise" to "touched up sides and lightly oversprayed top and back with wear areas showing through to original varnish"
period tooled leather trap-door case; per page 92 of the Martin book by Washburn & Johnson, "Martin began phasing out it's black wooden 'coffin' cases around the turn of the century in favor of leather cases"; photo of brown version of this case is shown as well
also comes with modern Martin molded case

$18,999.00 Canadian dollars ($11,999.US$).
