Ideas?

I have several writing assignments that I NEED to get done. Trouble is, I need ideas for topics. Here's the list:

1. A Comparison & Contrast Essay
2. A Diamante: I need two words that are opposites
3. A Random Essay assignment: Ideas?
4. A "Personal Response to Literature" assignment: Got any books I should read?
5. A Devotional: "Mom, can't I just use my Elsie Dinsmore one?" "No, write a new one."
6. Quatrain: it needs to be something that can be used as a verse to a hymn; I need ideas for the hymns to use, and the topic.

Any ideas?

Are these writing assignments based off of books, things you've read, spiritual reflections, or can they really be based off of anything?

I just want to make sure i don't give you completely weird and off base ideas

Haha I remember saying that to my mom "Mom, why can't I just use this essay I've ALREADY WRITTEN because it applies just fine!" and that idea being subsequently squashed

The compare/contrast essay...
1. pick two books that deal with a similar theme, possibly from two different points of view, and talk about how each author deals with that theme
2. Pick a film that's related to a book and do the same (I once wrote an essay for english class about The Odyssey and The Princess Bride. no joke)
3. Pick a book that has different groups of people with different philosophies and compare them (I'm kind of thinking Gulliver's Travels...he meets all the different kinds of people, talk about how they're the same and how they differ. Really there's a lot to deal with in this book).
4. getting away from books, pick a theme such as, I dunno, individualism and society and talk about how two different cultures deal with it. Cultural stuff is great for a compare/contrast essay.

Overall, and this goes for all essays, pick a topic you're interested in/passionate about and then roll from there. think about how it can be adapted to fit the various formats.

3.
If it can really be anything I'd pick something very fun. Try a humor essay? They are hard to write but they are so, so much fun. Try an essay based on the style of another author. That's also kind of fun. Write an essasy on a bizzare/cool topic. If you're completely out of ideas, glance on over at wikipedia and browse through articles until one catches your attention...something you want to maybe know more about, and go from there (just don't use wikipedia as your only source!!).

4. Boy do I have books for you to read...Tell me what other books you've read and really liked so I can give you books that'll be good and not ones you'll hate

5. I'm confused by exactly what you need here...a scripture passage, someone inspirational? A spiritual topic? There's lots of options But sometimes options are overwhelming, I know!

6. Well, what's your fav hymn? Start there.

Anyway, keep posting your ideas and I'll help you brainstorm if you want. I'd rather do that than study for my calculus test that's in an hour and a half.

Oh goodness. I'll have to get you the list later! That's a lot to post from memory! I'll write it down while I'm offline, and then post it.

I'm not really sure. I think Mrs. Vick wants me to take a Biblical principle and write a devo on it.

Oh, goodness, I have so many favorites! I'll have to go get a hymnbook and flip through it!

'Nother thing I'm working on is a PSA about homeschooling. More on that later.

I've writen many compare & contrast essays on difference in artistic styles of certain artists and/or art works. If you know what you're talking about, you can go on forever with pertinent jargon and impress the reader with your understanding of art on so many different levels. I think it's an excellent subject for a compare and contrast.

Make your random essay an in-depth analysis of something completely ridiculous... like the history of packaging materials (like packing peanuts, air packs).

I once did a speech on the origins of toilet paper.
