The compare/contrast essay...
1. pick two books that deal with a similar theme, possibly from two different points of view, and talk about how each author deals with that theme
2. Pick a film that's related to a book and do the same (I once wrote an essay for english class about The Odyssey and The Princess Bride. no joke)
3. Pick a book that has different groups of people with different philosophies and compare them (I'm kind of thinking Gulliver's Travels...he meets all the different kinds of people, talk about how they're the same and how they differ. Really there's a lot to deal with in this book).
4. getting away from books, pick a theme such as, I dunno, individualism and society and talk about how two different cultures deal with it. Cultural stuff is great for a compare/contrast essay.
Overall, and this goes for all essays, pick a topic you're interested in/passionate about and then roll from there. think about how it can be adapted to fit the various formats.
3.
If it can really be anything I'd pick something very fun. Try a humor essay? They are hard to write but they are so, so much fun. Try an essay based on the style of another author. That's also kind of fun. Write an essasy on a bizzare/cool topic. If you're completely out of ideas, glance on over at wikipedia and browse through articles until one catches your attention...something you want to maybe know more about, and go from there (just don't use wikipedia as your only source!!).
4. Boy do I have books for you to read...Tell me what other books you've read and really liked so I can give you books that'll be good and not ones you'll hate
5. I'm confused by exactly what you need here...a scripture passage, someone inspirational? A spiritual topic? There's lots of options

But sometimes options are overwhelming, I know!
6. Well, what's your fav hymn? Start there.
Anyway, keep posting your ideas and I'll help you brainstorm if you want. I'd rather do that than study for my calculus test that's in an hour and a half.
