This band KidCrash is giving away all their music free
http://www.denovali.com/kidcrash/

Haven't heard much but it's supposed to be awesome.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

You can pick up three free songs from one of my favorite bands, Driver f, at their myspace . Just look under the blogs and you'll find it.

Jerry Fee's got some of his stuff for free, the rest of it is dirt cheap.

Although, it won't last long.
The way the site works, the more people download a song, the more the price goes up.

We Are Smug - We Are Smug (Darren Hayes and Robert Conley)
The Slip - NIN
Last.FM Listen to tons of tracks for free, legally. Indie artists will usually upload tracks for download.
Halo33 at Last.FM Download Halo33's NIN remixes, they're actually pretty good.

I'm thought I posted this earlier but apparently I didn't.

Sputnikmusic - Free Music - Vol 1

Sputnikmusic - Free Music - Vol 2
Both features have about 20+ artists, there's a playlist to sample songs at the top, descriptions of the music next to them and many of the artists have reviews on the site.

Brigand Ensamble - irish roots
Some really nice traditional style Irish music
Professor Kliq - Community Service II
Very relaxing electronic/ambient music.
Oleg Serkov - Epoch Symbol
I haven't listened to this one as much as the other two, but it's still pretty awesome.
Aufklarung - 2 Pianos 4 Artists
Piano tonal painting of four artists.

NoiseTrade | Thousands of Albums. Completely Free. Completely Legal. - New music from Derek Webb and Sandra McCracken, free download of the single.

Also thought I'd plug Aaron Ross. Very talented musician who's played in several amazing bands and has had a really diverse solo career as well. I would define his voice as a cross between Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, way cool. All his solo music is free on bandcamp:

beginners blood | aaron ross Poppy, folk, kind of Bob Dylan-esque stuff
the hallelujah side | aaron ross Lo-fi solo acoustic
shapeshifter | aaron ross Psychedelic/post-rock/folk stuff
autopilot | aaron ross Electronica/industrial

Check out Andy Elwell. Most of his work is free or "name your own price" (including zero). He's a pretty chill dude. I played a show with him recently.

Jake Kaufman has a lot of good stuff. If you've played Mighty Switch Force 1 or 2 on the DS, he did the music. And all his stuff is free/name your price.
