checking grades online

Ok, so my school has this lil program called powerschool. And one of the things that it has is the ability for not only teachers to put the grades on it but for students and parents to get a password and you can check your grades on your own. It's kinda cool but it scares me all the time when I check it. cuz I'll have really bad grades and then whenever I get grades their wayy better.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had this at their school.

Ah yeah, my high school used to have online grade check too...I was obsessed with having perfect grades in high school (i had a 4.0 every year but my first...and that only cuz i got an A- in a science course), so checking grades was more a point of curiousity than fear.

However college is a whole nother ballgame...we also have online grade check and I kind of live in terror of failing a course. One time I missed the fail point by .3%. My parents have my passwords and stuff but I don't think that they know how to use the system to get to my grades...and I'm not planning to enlighten them unless they explicitly ask. Not that my overall grades are bad, and I do tell them what I get (mostly) but there are a couple black marks I could be in trouble for

A few of my teachers used one of those, but it just created a lot of extra work for them so they stopped.

It was helpful to be able to check on my grade, but its not that big of a deal... I am going to miss that though, I probably gained a point or two by knowing it. I didn't follow the school's rules for making my username on the site, so its partly a good thing for me to be using it less and less...

We actually use it, and no one's complained thus far. I believe we use Progress Book or sumthin like that. I've personally never used it, but it certainly does help the parents to know exactly where the child's at and what's missing. Easier for our teachers, too.

We have something similar at my school, but since it's a college, our parents don't have access to the grades.

Ditto Except I'm not in college. My parents actually have an email address where they could access my grades, except they've conveniently forgotten.

One thing. My mom doesn't know the password to my online grade thing. SHHHHHH I really don't want her to know it till she gets it from the school haha.

Out of curiousity, for anyone that has used both programs, is the program referenced in the first post anything like BlackBoard?

I'm a teacher (high school science) and my district has just started using "Powerschool." So far, it's ok but I still haven't learned how to do as many teacher-friendly things in the program as I could with the program we used to use. Powerschool also is basically run through web browsing software, which in my uneducated-in-computers opinion, could possibly make it: a) In some ways as terrible as IE b) a bit easier for a sinister student to hack

I think my college uses BlackBoard. I'll probably use it to check my Calculus grade, just to make sure I'm not failing it.
