How is your capo cut? Which strings are left untouched... and where are you placing the capo?

Man!! I love cut capo! I use it on my old classical guitar... basically its as easy as flipping a kaiser capo over (where the clear plastic part covers the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings)... If you did it right , the low G should be left open... man it opens all kind doors on improv jammin' ....... hope that cleared it up...

some friends of mine at college told me about playing with it and the very basics about it. i know that you use it to cover the A, D, and G strings on the second fret and i know that i have it cut right and all that stuff, but i'm just not sure about chords. i've played around with it a little since and i've found a few things that sound good but i've got no idea what most of them are. i'm only having trouble really with chord configurations. by the way, thanks for taking the time to help me out guys.

Well... I'm not a guitar player... but I'll try to help as best I can. I'll also get my guitar-playing brother in here a little later.

Anyway... with a capo cut and placed like that, your "tuning" ends up being like this: E B E A B E

Looking at that... I'd say this setup is probably best for keys such as E or A. Let's try making a few chords from those keys. Treat your capo as the nut and play these fingerings. (I can't guarantee these will all sound good or even be playable/fingerable.... but I'm pretty sure they will form the chords I say they will. )

0 0 0 0 0 0 - Esus4.. this one's really easy

0 0 0 2 0 0 or 0 0 0 x x x - E5 (E power chord)... you could easily barre this to play all other power chords

x 0 2 2 2 0 - B (note that unlike all the other 0's in these fingerings.. that last one must be fingered. Place a finger right next to the capo. On the second fret of the high E string, but 0 in relation to the capo. The last 2 in this fingering is also in relation to the capo... it's actually the 4th fret of the B string)

x 0 0 2 3 0 - Bsus (again, both of the last two numbers are in relation to the capo. Play the 5th fret of the B string, and the 2nd fret of the high E string.)

3 2 0 0 0 0 - A (once again, both of the bold-face notes MUST be fingered in relation to the capo. The 3 is actually the 5th fret of the low E string, but the 3rd in relation to the capo. The bold 0 is actually the 2nd fret of the B string.. but 0 in relation to the capo. NOTE: The high E string is left completely open... it is NOT played like the 0 on the B string.)

Ok.... that might have been a little confusing... but I hope it helps.

I use the capo like that all the time, here are some chords.

E(no3)=000200, or 000230
E=000232
B=x02220
Bsus4=x02200
A(add9)=320000
C#m7=x24400
D(add9)=x32010
F#m11/C#=x22000

Basically I use my cut capo or partial capo whenever a song is in the key of E, F#, G, or A. If you have seen Chris Tomlin use 2 capoes on a song, he is usually playing in the key of G with a partial capo on. Here, I'll show you:

"Be glorified" by Chris Tomlin

------|-----------0---------
------|-----------0----------
------|-----|-----2---------- that is a G chord. The capo on the third
------|-----|-----0----------- fret is on the G bass note.
------|-----|-----0----------
------|-----------0---------- A C or C9 chord is 320000 or 320005
An F9 chord is X32000 or X32005.
A D chord is X02200
An Am chord is X22000 (for that chord you need to play the A bass note on that so without any capoes it would be tabbed out like 577533) I hope that didn't confuse you. Just play it like an A power chord with both capoes on.
An Em chord is 024400.

--Those chords are all that are basically played in the song. You can also use the G, C, D, and Em in "Lord I lift Your name on high".

But basically whatever fret you have the first capo on, thats what key its in. (Ex. Capo 1, partial 3 "Key of F", Capo 5, partial 7 "Key of A".) I hope you understood all that 'cause when you understand how the partial capo works and all the different ways to use it, its a pretty sweet alternative to the normal no capo playing. Hope all this helps...

His,

Nolan

Cut Capo/Short Cut Capo Chords

For cut capo/short cut capo/partial capo chords, the best place i found was www.transpocapo.com

My friend bought one of these transpo capo's and was jamming with it and it was way better than the single cut capos/short cut capos that other companies sell, like kyser and shubb.
Anyway, i just got one and bought the transpo chord book as well that has like 200 or so already tabbed cut capo/short cut capo chords! Luv it.

they have a a great "how-to" page as well for beginners or newbies here http://transpocapo.com/instructions.html

It is against the rules.

1) It serves no purpose.
2) It clutters the forum.
3) It is annoying.
