| styles i think these are okay definitions
Swing-all on the snare drum with the bass drum keeping the beat. lots of rudiments and rolls. marching band type structure, but it has a sort of "swing" to it. "swing eighths"
Jazz-ride cymbal beat of 1 and a 2 and a, etc. uses "swing eighths"
Blues-triplet based. normal ride cymbal/high hat beat of 1 let 2 let 3 let 4 let
Funk-Jazz beat on ride/hats, but with more snare drum filling in the spaces, makes a "fuller" sound. uses "swing eighths"
Rock-eighth noted based, high hat/ride keeps steady eigth note pattern, basic snare beat on 2 and 4, with bass drum filling spaces in between.
Punk-Rock beat, but snare beats on 1, 2, 3, and 4.

#4 | | Guest | I dunno...I only play in church, and I usually come in on Sunday morning and learn the songs from what the piano's doing. So I suspect I wind up playing a little of all of those, just b/c they'll seem to fit the song best.
(btw, is 1 let 2 let supposed to be triplets? It might be easier if you noted it 1 pull let 2 pull let...) | |

The reason Donny didn't put the "pull" in there is because you don't hit the cymbal on every beat. You only hit on the first and last of the set of triplets. Of course... there ARE styles that use all three beats... but blues really isn't one of them.

| if you dont play blues, get a guitarist that can play blues and play with him, its the best music to just do a random jam to, plus its not that hard if u can handle the triplet based music.
i can play punk, i just dont like a lot of the bands I have heard, though im thinking im liking it a little more and not liking the really heavy stuff as much(zao, lutikriss)

| I play mostly rock & (rap/funk), but living in the middle east, the rythym is different here so to play for church, I had to learn it all. |
