Als ich in High School war, gab es nur Deutsch und Spanisch. Ich mochte Spanisch nicht, deshalb musste ich Deutsch lernen. An der Uni begann ich, Deutsch zu lieben. Es war auch gut, dass meine Vorfahren aus Deutschland kamen.

Im classe.

Haha...My German is very limited. I don't even know if what I just said was right. I took two years back in high school, 8th & 9th grade (and did very well, I might add), and now as a freshman in college have started German II, completely skipping German I. I'm in for one heck of a ride, methinks. I know a lot of vocabulary and can conjugate verbs...it's just that I forget what all the words mean now. I just need to refamiliarate myself with them.

Actually, I have to leave for class now.

Ach, ich habe dieses Thread vergessen.

Bei Loyola Universität, muss man für zwei Semester eine Fremdsprache lernen. Es gibt Spanisch (das kann ich ohne Uni lernen), Französisch (das kann ich nicht verstehen), und Deutsch. Ich bin auch von deutscher Abstammung. Also lerne ich Deutsch. Und jetzt kann ich nach Dortmund fliegen und in Dortmund studieren! Ich bin froh, dass ich Deutsch ausgewählt habe.

Mmm... can you tell I haven't actually been in Germany yet?

Nee*, es klingt gut.



*I never heard it until I came here, but a lot of people say what sounds like 'nay' instead of 'nein' in everyday speech. I have no idea how to spell it, so I'm going with 'nee' which rhymes with 'fee' (fairy).

Meine Professorin sagt das auch. Sie ist Hamburgerin.

Auch benutzen die Amischmennoniten das..

Ich spreche ein bisschen.
Okay--I'm rusty--in college I learned it, now I mostly remember random phrases--don't have anybody to practice with.

Anybody here want to help?

Ich habe Deutsch 5 jahren im Schüle gelernt... ich arbeite nicht mehr von 2 jahren, aber ich müsste, weil ich in 10 minuten in Deutschland fahren soll...
