Woman Dies From Water Intoxication

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/13/wat....ap/index.html

Is this the end of these kinds of contests?

More proof videogames kill people!

That is really sad though. Apparently she has three kids.

That is incredibly sad. The worst part is, people feel driven to meet the challenge. They do these things willingly. That's the sad part.

Just plain tragic. I wonder why people so things like this.

well, she probably didn't know you could die by drinking too much water. The only reason I knew was because of the hazing event recently and only because I happened to be watching the news when it came on. I don't think water intoxication is common knowledge.

And all they would have had to do was switch it to a Gatorade drinking contest...

Honestly, I think the station should have to pay a serious fine. It's about time people started thinking before acting. I get so sick of people doing things "for fun" that are dangerous and not caring that they're dangerous.

First it was "Chubby Bunny," now it's "Hold Your Wee," what 'innocent' game is next?

I'd think the station had the contestants sign a form here or there to really keep them in the legal clear...that at least seems pretty normal here.

Making people sign a form =/= taking responsibility for actions. Legally, it works. Morally, it doesn't.

Well, signing a little form does not release the station for the moral responsability. Most people probabally saw the form as a formality to be eligable to win.

Drinking excessive amounts of water while ignoring your body's natural response to it seems like a stupid thing to do, anyways. If my kids want a Wii (or whatever is the equivalent when I get around to procreating), they can get a paper route.

you're both correct...but can a fine be leveled for moral considerations? Aren't the idiots who take part in the contests ultimately reliable for their own fates?
