| Honeymoon in Florida Hey guys,
So, i'm getting married May 19, 2007 and we want to honeymoon in Florida. We want something around the panhandle that isn't too crowded (panama city, pensacola, etc..) but is still on the beach and civilized. I was thinking a bed and breakfast might be the way to go. Any ideas?

-shane | You have picked a gorgeous spot for honeymooning. *smile* Absolutely the best in Florida, in my opinion. Panama City and Pensacola are not ideal as the crowds, touristy things and business. But! Go to Sandestin, Destin or Seaside area. These are all together between PC and Pensacola. Beautiful beautiful area with snow-white beaches. Seaside is where I have always wanted my honeymoon. *smile* The Seaside honeymoon cottages are fairly expensive but there are bed/breakfasts and nice hotels all through the area.
I wish I knew a specific bb to recommend...but you could check in those towns. Congratulations! |

| I read a lot on seaside and was pretty impressed. I'm still considering. I just haven't found the right bb yet.

| Ok, so i'm looking for a nice little bed and breakfast or cottage. I'd prefer a cottage or a non-adjoined room. (I don't really want the 'hotel' feel, i want to feel alone and secluded...private). We're looking to stay for about a week. I'd like a hot tub or something in the room. On the beach. Our budget is $1000-2000.
I've looked pretty much everywhere! It seems all the good stuff is on the atlantic side or in mid to south florida. I just don't want to drive that far. Any suggestions? I need help!

| *UPDATE*
Ok, so we talked it over some more and I think we actually do want to stay in a hotel. We're looking at Destin and particularly the Embassy Suites there. Pretty good prices and has the features we need.
Anyone stay in an Embassy Suites before?
What cool things are there to do around Destin?
Thanks!

My family used to vacation in Destin all the time, but we pretty much stuck to the beach. We did go on a two-hour dolphin cruise once there that was pretty much awesome, if you like that sort of thing. |

| Things to do....just hang out on the beach. I love playing on the beaches. There is a huuuuge namebrand "outlet" mall in Sandestin that is pretty fun to walk. There is a water park that I don't know much about. And a Gulfarium. And the sun sets over the beach. |

| So, planning a honeymoon has got to be one of the least fun things i've ever done!! How do you find a place to stay in a place you've never been? If we just wanted a hotel room, it'd be easy. But we're trying to find something nice..like a suite, or perhaps even a honeymoon suite. (Ya know, something with a hot tub )
I went to book our dates at the embassy suites and they're booked. Any ideas? I really don't know what else to do!!

-shane | just about everything has photos online. Look around... Call reservations, or maybe hotels.com or something (they have an 800 number too) and see if you can get any help that way...

-shane | Use sites like Hotels.com or other Travel sites and not the sites the hotel provides. Some hotel sites are misleading, but stuff like Hotels.com rates them and actually gives decent reviews. BTW, Destin rocks and is extremely beautiful.
EDIT**
Here's some sites to look at. These are mainstream hotel sites... http://www.hotels.com/?js=1&zz=1170697109253 http://www.travelocity.com/Hotels?WA...WA5=NT&WA6=HOT http://www.orbitz.com/App/ViewHotelS...xt.mc_kw=hotel
They have pro reviews, user reviews, ratings, rankings... And its cheaper to book a room through one of these sites.

The rates double in Destin over the weekend so we're looking for a change in scenery. Any Ideas? We're looking for something between Birmingham and Destin. Thanks!

They buy a block of rooms and keep those for their own customers. When you called the hotel directly, they didn't have access to the room. Only the wholesaler had it.

| This will be much more than Destin if you're budgeting...but it's a good list of accomodations near Seaside
Click here and select "Where to Stay" on the far left. |

| I didn't take the time to check for you, but you might want to look at this website: www.vrbo.com
It is Vacation Rentals By Owner. They are privately owned houses/condos/cottages and are usually quite a bit more economical. We have friends that have used them and were really happy. You deal directly with the homeowner. The site is just a listing of rentals. It may be worth checking out.
Good luck and best wishes!

| I suppose I'd be the person to ask about this. It's a really nice place to be, but to be honest, there isn't all that much to do there. There's nice places to eat and a great beach but not much more. But that makes it perfect for a couples' first time as husband and wife. I can't particularly vouch for the hotel you chose but you may wish to check for a beach cottage there. I can't find a good place myself though and I haven't stayed there overnight before.
I highly recommend that before you go on vacation anywhere for any reason that you check with the city's chamber of commerce. http://www.destinchamber.com/
According to the site, there's going to be a Seaside Wine Tour, but the last day is on the 19th so I don't think you'd be getting there in time or even wanting to partake in it on your first day as man and wife.
But there is an Art Exhibit that opens on the 13th and runs through June. I've never heard of Ann Carothers (the artist they're showcasing) but she could be good for all we know.
Other than that, I don't know of any other town event happening and Tallahassee (where I live) is far away enough for me not to know what's going on. |
