C, A, T, and G are the nucleotides which make up the base pairs of a strand of DNA. A goes with T and C goes with G. So on one side of the helix you would have for example CGGATCG and the other side would be GCCTAGC.

so the very first living creature had all 4 - CATG?
Ahh yes, the "abiogenesis and monomer formation" question.

How monomers (nucliotides and amino acids) formed is the topic of much speculation and experimentation. Bluntly, we don't know for sure.

But CATandG were all present in very early life forms. They are all present in modern life that you would consider comparable (bacteria, algie, etc). So a discussion of mutation and its ability to effect morphology isn't a discussion of abiogenesis. (see my FAQ for my answer on abiogenesis)

oh...so i guess i misunderstood, the evolutionary question mark doesn't come at the building of the "CATGs" but rather where these amino acids built up in the first place. I guess i forgot the fact that every living thing has DNA made up of CATG.
