Ahh yes, the "abiogenesis and monomer formation" question.
How monomers (nucliotides and amino acids) formed is the topic of much speculation and experimentation. Bluntly, we don't know for sure.
But CATandG were all present in very early life forms. They are all present in modern life that you would consider comparable (bacteria, algie, etc). So a discussion of mutation and its ability to effect morphology isn't a discussion of abiogenesis. (see my FAQ for my answer on abiogenesis)
