| Why do jobs always tell you you'll probably get hired? I've applied at several places so far, most recently Subway, and they tell me I've got a good chance of getting hired. The Subway told me I had a very good chance of getting hired, and they haven't called me in a week. I called earlier this week and was told that the owner got the applications the day before and would call by Friday... Lo and behold, I am still unemployed on Friday. Great. Not even an interview on this job that "I'd most likely get because they're hiring like crazy," in the words of the guy I talked to. Why, oh why, must places get my hopes up like this? The guy I talked to was a manager of sorts, too, I believe, or a supervisor or something. I'm starting to get annoyed in my job hunt. |

| It took very nearly a month for places I applied at to call me back. It takes some patience, I suppose.

| The same thing is kind of happening to me. I've haven't applied anywhere else, either, because I am sick of not getting hired. |

I'm going to ask my mom what she suggests when she gets home tonight, and I'll probably end up calling them again. |

| OK, here's the thing. Phone calls are annoying! A business manager can get hundreds of them in a day and they often come when he/she is doing something else.
If you want to make a lasting impression do two things: first - write a thank you letter by hand for the interview or just for the chance to apply; second - go there in person dressed for an interview! Now, the letter should be mailed no later than the day after an interview or about a week after applying for the job. Dressing for an interview means putting on clothes that are one level above what the propective employer normally wears if possible. If the manager wears a suit, then it should be a suit to at least match the level. A t-shirt is NEVER acceptable for an interview. Period!
Remember, get off the blasted phone and contact them in a way that won't irritate them and get your name in front of him either in writing or face-to-face.
Good luck
God Bless
Bob

| I was jaded by a tech company ...well two tech companies and will probably be sticking with self employment or an organization I trust... like the government.... my second to last corporate job lied in every stage of the hiring process (from job advertised to hours.).. applied and interviewed for a PC tech redistrobution position and found myself fixing gateway HDTVs with absolutly no training... with mandatory overtime with one days notice because the company was run (said in the most christian manner possible) by a bunch of ****heads.
and my last job thought I was weird for wanting to call off when there was three inches of ice on my car... it took 5 hours just to be able to pull out of the driveway... all for a $9 an hour call center job for a company that told me they billed $50 a _call_ doing Applecare for iPods |

I say you should call them, or show up at the store and ask to speak to the manager about it. You should get points for persistence, at least. |
