I eat raw doughs or batters all the time. Never once have I been violently ill because of it.

Chipotle, on the other hand, gave me food poisoning.

I have contracted food poisoning from key lime pie and buffet sushi (By the way, what on earth was I thinking when I took that ebi roll at a Chinese buffet?) but never ever from cookie dough.

Although, I did (sort of) stop eating it when my dad told me that sometimes flies lay eggs in flour and when you eat cookie dough, your body heats up the dough and the eggs hatch and then you are full of fly larvae. I haven't seen a study that has proved this yet, but I don't want to be full of baby flies. That is gross.
(Although, I also believed my grandfather when he told me that if I ate watermelon seeds, a watermelon plant would grow in my stomach and shoot out my mouth one day. But that was a long time ago.)

Dads and grandfathers are great for scaring people.

Sometimes doctors, too.
Because when I was a kid this doctor always told me I had potatoes in my ears, and how scary is that? Almost as scary as people in giant ape costumes.

You get the salmonella from raw eggs. I don't think you can get salmonella from processed cookie dough because they do cook some of it beforehand.. if that makes any sense. You could probably get salmonella from homemade cookie dough.
