I thought it sounded digital. Though it must've happened somewhere after the recording (mp3 compresion, mixdown, something).

The best thing I like about using an amp instead of a modeler is that my tone seems to be more stable. I can go from my house to the stage and readjust settings in a few minutes. When I played with a modeler I was continually making major tweaking changes to my settings and I spent way to much time doing it. Now I spend more time working on my playing skills and less time tweaking... it was like being set free from tweaker's prison.
Interesting. What modeler was this anyway?

The PODxt has a very helpful master EQ in it's output settings which I make use of to adjust my tone when I get onstage. So everything I've come up with beforehand at home sounds right onstage, and life is good.

A Digitech RP2000. I particularly had trouble with any overdrive settings. It seemed better on the really overdriven stuff than the lightly overdriven but IMO it is kind of sterile & harsh as compared to my amp overdrive. I've tried other modelers at GC as well. I didn't like the amount of tweaking to get good sounds and the process of moving between patches on most that I've tried. Our church purchased an amp for the lead guitarists to use if they want. It is a Fender Princeton Chorus... I use it for rehearsal nights but I bring my C30 for the two Sunday a.m. services. I say that because we are not required to go direct to the board. It has been discussed in the past but none of the lead guitarists liked the idea. We have one alternate guitarist who uses a PODxt direct but she primarily plays rhythm with light overdrive, if any, and uses a small amp as a monitor. We don't have a sufficient monitor set up to give the lead guitar their own mix.

It does take work and tweaking to get a nice tone out of a modeler, but I personally like it. It's cool that you don't, though you just gotta do whatever you can do to get great tone, right?
