Meat Pies

Meat pie
It used to be said that a New Zealander’s idea of a seven-course meal consists of a six-pack and a pie.

The meat pie is a New Zealand staple. Although meat stew in a pastry case has long been popular in English cookery, the small square eat-on-the-run version is a distinctly New Zealand adaptation.

I like JESTERS pies.. yum! Especially their spinach/feta and mushroom pie *drool*

But there is nothing like a good steak and cheese pie!!!!

Americans don't know what a meat pie is... a pie in their country is sweet. Funny thing that.

I only like meat pies if my Mum cooks them...that way I know I'm not eating pig guts or what ever...And for crying out loud, 99% of Aussies have never eaten roo! It's like saying since you're from NZ, you eat kiwis...The birds...not the fruit...Or the locals, for that matter.

Well, quite a few Americans know what a meat pie is now. Friends, infact, introduced a lot of Americans to the good ol' Shepherds Pie. And trifle. At the same time.

Also, the argument concerning eating kangaroos and kiwis? One is an endangered species, the other has a plentiful population. It would be like saying that because we're from New Zealand, we eat sheep. And we do. Or perhaps even Possum. And we do. If we were to turn the kiwi analogy back on Australia, then it would be like saying that because you're from Australia, you eat Numbat.

But back on the subject of pies, you can't go passed a good pie sammie. And when Georgie Pie was around, they were the best pies you could get. Rip open the top and dip your chips in them. Still available, by the way, from Foodtown. They come in boxes. Well, at least they used to.

Jesters' are really good. I love the Kiwi Classic. Haven't been there in a while though.

Is there a difference between Aussie and Kiwi Meat Pies? I googled meat pies and one of the first links was this:

http://www.australianpieco.com/

It happens to be like 10-15 miles from my house! I'm thinking about trying it..otherwise I'll just have to wait until I go down to NZ to try them.

The only difference would probably be the companies.

If you go have one, the beef and cheese is always a safe bet. I don't think I could handle bacon with my steak and cheese.

Oh, and lamingtons are great. I don't know if you guys have them. They're like blocks of sponge, coated in some flavour thing, and then coated in coconut, and filled with whipped cream.

i dont really know many brands of sausage roll, just that you can get curry ones, little annoying ones and big thick mother ones that slide down the back of ya throat and make ya stink of garlic for ages.
