I'm actually really excited to go down to NZ. That way I can compare the meat pies here to the real deal. I've also heard good things about a beer called Monteith's Red. I want to try it.

| I've never tried Monteiths, but I've heard great things too. I should see if I can get a few.
Oh, and I'd definitely trust Matt on his Aussie beers.
Oh, and about the kiwi pies. I'll have to look the list up, but there's a list of the best pies in New Zealand. I mean, Big Bens, Irvines, Mrs. Macs, etc. are fine, but they're factory made. Oh, and you can't beat a good old homemade pie. My nan makes a really nice bacon and egg pie. Oh, and cornish pasties. And shepherds pie! But yeah.
Oh man. I wonder if the place is still there... There was this bakery in Auckland some where. I think maybe Newmarket. Anyway, they made the best potato top pies I've ever eaten. But I haven't been back there since I was a kid. |

| In all seriousness, I'm pretty heavily considering it. I'd most probably come some time after July next year. |

If it's 13 inches bigger in diameter than a pizza hut/dominos pizza, then that's absolutely huge!
I'd love to try one, but all the store locations are down south, Christchurch. |

Tooheys New is cheap piss over here and I dont reckon its anything to get too excited about. But no doubt it's rare over there and if you're like me you'll want to try anything like that. Tooheys do make a nice dark ale called tooheys old, and their dry lager is good too.
Coopers is a very traditional ale, with a lot of yeast sediment in the bottle, the beer gets tasty with age (dont bother forking out the extra cash for the vintage variety though). You'll notice on the bottle where most other beers have a best before date, coopers will have a best after date instead.
When I was over in NZ couple of summers ago i enjoyed the Monteith's summer ale which is only sold during summer apparently and is brewed with honey. Never tried Montheith Red though.
If you go to the south island, definately try a Speights ( http://www.speights.co.nz/Great-Beers.aspx ) I got stuck into some of those.
For a more serious ginger beer, I really enjoyed the Pheonix brand when I was over in NZ ( here) . In Australia, we have an alcoholic variety ( Stones) it's not bad, but not as good as what I hoped for. With ginger beer nothing beats home brew. | I will definitely look for Speights! The Blue Tongue wasn't really anything very special. Just an average lager. Quote:

I love pizza!
