EDIT: Elaboration.

On the JSX 212 that I jammed with at the local music store, there are switches and knobs that are labeled with words that make no sense. There are some switches that are supposed to make the tone fatter, and they make little difference. There are like knobs that I swear do nothing but turn, and it is confusing. I had an employee there who is supposed to be an amps expert come and show the thing to me and he didn't know jack about squat with this thing. I think you'd have to be a rocket scientist or Joe Sat himself to understand it. Now I am not saying that I didn't get some freaking awesome metal tones out of it, because I did, but that doesn't make the amp any less confusing. Also IMO the clean channel on the JSX is completely worthless, muddy, and just down right terrible. But that thing wasn't designed to be a clean machine was it?
Let's see:

Master: Presence, Resonance, Master Volume

Ultra: Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume, Gain, Noise gate, Fat Switch

Crunch: Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume, Gain, Fat Switch

Clean: Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume

Doesn't look complicated at all to me. You need to get your hands on a V3.. hehehe. Look here and here.

Too many bells and whistles, that is a major turn off to me.

I agree, too many knobs is terrible and not appealing. I like me a good Master, channel volume, treb, mid, bass, and gain. Thats about it.

So Independent EQ per channel + a boost switch per channel and even a built in noise gate(Great Idea for an amp designed for very high gain) = too many bells and whistles?

...ok.

For me. That's just way too much. I guess if you are Joe Sat then that's great. But most people will never need or want that stuff. The JSX caters to a very specific crowd.

I think that you need to realize that *your* wants are actually the niche here.

You're actually saying that if you had a choice of a shared EQ for clean and distortion VS. an independent EQ for clean and distortion, you would take the shared?

Well, you're one of them, then. I had just talked to someone at GC that very day about them. I do know that if I can't afford an Orange, an AT100 is going to be my next amp.

No, I like having two EQ's but having all these extra knobs and switches for each channel, that's too much. The OP never really said that he needed all the extra fluff or high gain for that matter. He did say he wanted a good clean channel, which the JSX doesn't provide IMO.

I'll just say I think you're exaggerating and leave it at that. The only extra stuff I see on this amp is a noise gate, and two boost switches.

IMO, once you take the time to get really acquainted with any amp, it'll be pretty simple to use.

The JSX is simpler than many Mesas.
