I've never quite had any magical experiences with PRS guitars. By that I mean that they've never quite clicked with me as a guitar I'd really enjoy playing. BUt I suppose that's just my opinion.

I suggest a Jackson Dinky or a Fender Squier Stratocaster.

^ Jackson Dinky. I would buy it at Guitar Center. They come in different colors, and they have a great sound!

I don't know what kind of music stores you have around your area, but I would second figuring out a way to get him to try some guitars out at a local store. Take mental note of what he liked, then go from there.
