i doubt it. the edge has a very distinctive style of playing but his tone wont sound the same coming through a mesa boogie triple rectifier. his playing style plus his amp and effects make him sound the way he does and it wont sound the same with another set up. unless its an amp very similiar to vox ac 30

| Well, to pull a quote from Pat Metheny...
"I had a revelatory experience a few years ago when I realized that "equipment", although certainly a component in my sound, really had little to do with why I sound like the way I sound. For years, between around 1977 to 1987, I never did ANYTHING without my "rig". I would never "sit in" unless I could have my amps and stuff there, I basically didn't do any record dates at all other than my own cause I was sure they would "mess up my sound" -- etc., etc. Then in 1987, I went to the then-USSR on a tour with the group and there were a few "jam session" situations where I HAD to play with some Russian guys on their "gear" -- and I use the term loosely. I played one night on a Polish guitar and a Czech amp. Someone taped it and gave me the tape the next day. I was shocked to hear that I sounded JUST LIKE ME!!!!"

| Indeed, look at the way the Edge has modified his rig throughout the years. A more clear example would be Clapton as well. He changed his rig wildly and still sounded like Clapton. Off topic I guess, but a good point.
You may want to look at Laneys. The VC series is very Vox AC-esque, but with a slightly different personality.
You may also want to investigate some single ended fender combos, which sound a lot different to the twins and big monster tube amps. I reckon one of those could generate a meaty, beautifully fat, sweet lead tone. |

| Don't sell the AD140! You should start a collection of Orange amps. http://www.planetoftheamps.com/green-orange-platoon.jpg
But do as you must.

| I like the Traynor YCV50 Blue. BTW, I appreciate what Jon added with Pat Metheny's revelation. I suppose you could say he learned the hard way too! Also, with regard to Daniel Carson, in the context of what he's playing, he does it very well - tasteful and musical. |

(from: http://www.digitalinterviews.com/dig.../metheny.shtml) | Excellent quote and it confirms what I and many others have been saying for years regarding specific gear and someone's personal "tone".
But others can doubt away if it makes them happy.
Glad to hear that you're keeping the Orange. |
