Any volunteer firefighters here?

When I get my driver's license in a few months, I plan on joining the volunteer fire department. Is anyone here a current member or a veteran of a volunteer fire department? I have a few questions about it, such as what I'd be doing, probably, what the risks would be at my age, what firefighting training is like, etc. So, if someone could please help me out, I could be a bit more educated when I apply for it eventually

Kind of late - but just saw this thread

There is an old discussion about this (may have some info for you):
http://www.christianguitar.org/forum...ad.php?t=79429

I've been a Volunteer for about 6 years now. I'm currently a Rescue Firefighter / Fire Police Srgt. / First Responder (Ambulance Driver in PA).

My first question back to you is what state do you live in? Things are some what different from state to state.

Also do you know if the station you are going to apply to only does Fire Service or do they also have volunteer EMS?

Also a late response! I'm planning on applying at a Fire and EMS station in Virginia. I've gotten extra information on it since then, but I still don't know what I'd be doing if I got in .

'Eh, no prob. I haven't been the most active on this thread either .

Yeah, I can't tell if I'm fit enough to do it, either. I'm not a wimp anymore, due to weight lifting, w00t, but I'm not a big ol' tough guy...
