We're looking at the Close and Secure sleeper. I'm a fan of the idea of having the baby near us for the first while but want to be able to establish a practice of her/him having their own bed
I think this looks like an awesome idea. I don't have room for a bassinet anyway!

We had each in bed for reasons already mentioned. No harm. Tried the "recommended" way of leaving them in a crib. 20 minutes of letting them "cry it out" was enough for a life time. It was in-human. Criticized for it, but never had any regrets.

I am not a parent, but with that said...

I am pretty certain my parents had a two bedroom apartment when I was an infant, one of which was mine. there are pictures of my mom napping on her bed with me laying across her chest on my stomach (not even breastfeeding. apparently that is just how I slept.) during the day, but I don't think I slept with my parents at night. (interestingly enough, 20 years later I still have trouble sleeping unless I am on my stomach. it seems that's been ingrained in me from the beginning.)

I do remember as a kid going into my parents' room at night when I was scared. I have always had recurring nightmares, and I would wake my poor parents up quite frequently. also, my dad and I are both night owls, and when I was little he would take me to political meetings and restaurants and different random places with him, and sometimes if we got home really late he'd let me sleep with him and my mom.

looking back, my parents were extremely careful when it came to balancing their marital relationship and us kids sleeping in their beds or being in their room because we needed to be comforted and cuddled. sometimes I would wake up and their door would be locked, and I never knew why. I have heard horror stories of kids walking in on their parents and being traumatized, but thankfully that never happened to me because my parents are both very careful people. I don't think any of us four children slept in my parents' room regularly; only when we were sick or scared.
