what does 777 Mean?

can someone correct me about this? I might be wrong but here I go
Does 777 mean the perfection and purity of God? I know 666 is the mark of the beast but what does 777 mean?

That Stryper is somewhere close. Its even more obvious if it is yellow and black.

pardon my silliness, but textually, we don't actually know whether the number of the beast is 666 or 616. Both are different manuscript traditions.

Its an extrapolation at best, that if 6 is the number of man, and 7 is the perfect number, that if 666 was the number of the beast...

there are two possible explanations that I can come up with.
1) the age of Lamech in the Bible when he diedwas 777; also, he died 777 years before Israel entered Egypt in 1876BC.
2)the other is that 7 is a complete and pure number; earth was finished in seven days. In Genesis 4:23b, 24 the number '7' signifies complete wrath or mercy shown to another. There are more but you can figure that out for yourself. And 3 is also number that is a pure and righteous number. The holy trinity God, The father, The Holy spirit theres three. The ressurection of Christ was taken place in 3 days.
You can take either of those how you want to that's just my opinion, you can put them both together and make your own conclusion about the subject if you wish.

I was a new teenage believer in the early 80's. At that time one of the 'Christian fads' was to look for secret evil stuff in hard rock/heavy metal music. There were even a number of travelling seminars geared towards unmasking the stuff in the music. A number of bands at that time (iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc) used the number 666 as a gimmick to seem more dark and sinister. Naturally a number of us Christians at that time (me included) freaked out a bit when we saw the use of 666 by these bands.

When Stryper came along they made a twist on 666 by using 777 as a theme on their debut album. It kind of stuck since then. As someone who lived thru that time as a young believer I thought I'd share what happened then as I think it answers the original question. Biblically I don't believe 777 is used although 7 is a number associated with God in a number of locations in the Bible.

Regards, Bill

Research Gematria. I assure you that Stryper is not the originator of the significance of 777.

OK, I always thought 777 was a recent thing.

BTW I noticed you're in Martha's Vinyard. What brings you to Ted Kennedy's old swimming hole?

Yeah, Gematria is actually really interesting. Essentially, it's based on the fact that in the Hebrew language, letters also represent numbers. There's a lot of places you'll find numbers like 7, 777, and 3 be important. I'm not too sure to what degree I buy in to it, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Oh, and I'm attending the Contemporary Music Center. It's basically a semester abroad where you work on writing, recording, and performing music and all about the business.

There's a difference between numbers that are biblically significant and numbers that actually stand for something. There is no actual meaning for 777 that I'm aware of. Unless someone made it up. 7 is a significant number in the same way that 3 is, but they don't really have a specific purpose or meaning.

In my experience 3 represents divine perfection (such as the Trinity), and four represents early perfection. The meetings of the two (7 by addition, 12 by mulitiplication) are both "holy" numbers that usually have a symbolic meaning of completeness or fulness of perfection. Additionally anything repeated 3 times is a superabundant meaning, hence 777 would be superabundant perfection (as only in God).

It is also a play on 666 which is perfection missed perfecly.

On a mathematical note (sorry to those who eyes have glazed over by now), 6 is the first perfect number (1+2+3=1*2*3=6) and seven surpasses it.
