| What are you going to be using it for ? I would take a look at Peavey, and the Ashdown Electric blue series.

| $350 is a decent budget. you can definitely get alot of amp for that much money.
I'm a little confused by your statement though...you say you have to get it "off line" but that you can't try them out. Did you mean you can only get it online and can't go to a music store to try them out? |

| 100W in terms of bass may or may not be alot. It's probably good enough for most church and youth group playing, but it probably won't retain clean headroom for anything really loud. For what it's worth, I went through three amplifier setups in a period of two years...though honestly, my first one, an Acoustic 150 (110W) probably would've been plenty loud with the right cabs, the Polytone 101 (130W) I used for the bulk of that time period simply started to not have enough available power...and I was running both of the 130W amps to get a little extra oomph!
that being said, for the price range you're looking at, I'd either go with a 2x10" or 1x15" speaker setup with a tweeter.
Something like this might be cool because it is pretty powerful (600W bridged, 300W bi-amped) and will afford more expandability later on if you need it. Of course that auction has some time left on it, so who knows what price it will end up at. |

| I would recomend getting something with 15" speakers because they get a better sound for bass. It might be worth trying an 18" but thats up to you.
With that budget I would try a combo unless you can get a good deal on something else. You could try ampeg, from what I hear they are worth the money.

| Just my experience with the Fender Bassman 100: My bud has one, and I used it for P&W, and that thing kept clipping, and I had to play it pretty cranked. It got loud enough to be passable, but by that time all my clean headroom was gone. At least I didn't mind too much having a dirty sound, but it was rather annoying to say the least. (next time I'm running thru the board... )
Moral of the story: if you're playing out, get something more powerful. |

I wouldn't say it's better or worse than a 15", it's just different. For this reason I have a 2x10 and a 1x15 stack. One of the users in the bass forum (Visirale) swears by his Mesa 2x12". Bass tone isn't just derived by the speakers, but by the cabinet. A properly voiced cabinet will give a great tonal response. |
