Amp suggestions?

Hi guys,

Im interested in getting a new amp and after talking to ryan(buildingboy) about it for a couple months. I decided to ask you guys. Im looking to spend max $1000 I would prefer $800. Im looking for an amp with a decent clean and a nice OD channel. I would prefer it had an effects loop. But if it doesnt thats fine. I would be buying new, or used off ebay. Thanks for any suggestions.

A Vox AC30 would fit your bill but you would have to get it used to get it under $1000

Meh, you know what I say.

I think you'd love the Legacy. I really really think you would. It has the FX loop and a freakin awesome clean channel, similar to the MTS I suppose. The Legacy's distortion is just so warm and thick. $500-$600ish for heads on ebay.

try a B-52.. great OD channels and a pretty nice clean channel, if i had a way of recording it, i'd do it for you immediately.. but i've been playing in my schools pep band and our director loves it when i play clean on it... though i wish the dean had left his Fender...

Don't know how experienced you are or how much shopping you already have done, but, I would recommend the vox. You will have to do some searching to find a decent price, even for a used one (remember, we're talking the Vox AC30, all tube, ect. ect.) Besides price and brand, you should be thinking of dependability and your usuage requirements, pedals and headroom.

I recommend that you buy an all tube amp; greatest tone and headroom per watt, but you'll have to budget repairs and maintanence. For many, it is well worth it. If you go this route, 15-40 watts is plenty. Don't get confused by solid state watts, you'll have to run 40-100 for roughly the same effect.

A very decent tube amp is the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, with an fx loop and a good busty punch. Modern distortions will need a pedal infront of it.

Speaking of pedals: you want an amp that is receptive to your pedals. I have no idea if you are a digital or analog guy (or if your a guy at all), but the Fender does both well. A Vox will be more touchy, you'll need to be more carefull not to suck precious tone out of it with your signal chain. You can get away with that on a cheaper amp.

You could still go the solid state route, save money but skimp on tone. I say if you go this way and don't have a lot of effects pedals, go line6 and do amp modelling. Not recommended if you already have investments in analog.
