Should be an x-root button somewhere. Push the 3 for 3rd or 5 for 5th, the x-root button, and then the number that you want to find the root of... at least that's how it works on most calculators.

Ok, then just use the power function and take the 1/3rd or 1/5th power. It's the same thing.

I only know about the 83+ and very little at that.

Good luck

In any event, these calculators don't tend to have all the conveniences of more typical calculators because they're designed for much more advanced tasks (and their designed to take a while to learn how to use). I recommend having a cheaper, scientific calculator in addition to a graphing calculator. I like the ones with two line displays.

Get a TI84 more intuitive, but still powerful... TI89 pisses me off

haha...yeah...just raise it to the 1/3 or 1/5 root.

In my Calc 3 and physics at the University, the tests are all "no calculators". That's because the new calculators can so powerful, they can practically take the test for you....

the 89 is required by my University.. if i had my choice, i'd still be using the 83+.. but i need Cube Roots for things like "8 on the Cube Root of X"

my high school required that we shell out for the TI 83 or up...

Then I got to college and they won't LET us use them because they are too sophisticated and the allegedly have something called "text storage" though I've never been able to figure out how to use it.

My college has required that I purchase 3 other calculators. They can't standardize and every class is specific about what they want: So I have the specific model scientific calculator for chemistry, then I have a simple 4 function calc for lin. alg. and other math courses (excpet calculus where they won't even let you have THAT), and then now a financial calculator for my finance class.

The amount of money I've sunk into calculators makes me annoyed, but I suppose it's a drop in the bucket compared to tuition.

Ok here's the deal. The TI-89 Titanium is quite possibly the greatest calculator of all time... It doesn't have a complex root symbol, i never noticed this until you brought it up because i just raise things to fractional powers.

As far as calculators go, i went through diff eq is one of the first maths your allowed a calculator. I had to go through Engineering physics with a pencil. I currently own like 5 different ones thanks to engineering.
