What kind of truck? What type engine? Pre-catalytic converters or after? You have to go through an emissions check each year or not?

You want to shoot for duals?

Louder is a by-product. More power comes from reduced back-pressure, which be be a result of less restrictive mufflers.

According to the pics thread, 90's F150. And louder is definitely the way to go. If you scare everyone away with the sound of your car/truck/moped they'll never find out how slowfast you really are.

Have you considered becoming a HS guidance counselor?

Unfortunately my sense of right and wrong, willful cynicism, and use of punctuation automatically disqualify me.

well, my truck is a 92 f-150....i would like to dop dual exhast if possible....it looks better.....i have a staright 6 300ci(4.9L)...can i get a good sound outta that?...i don't have to go through an emissions test each year(yet...but may come soon, since this city is over a million now....but it is oil country, so maybe not so soon)....i don't know if i should get pre-catalytic or after....tell me a bit about both....

sorry, i made myself sound super clueless....i know that power comes from less backpressure.....and that the loudness it a by-product as you say....i just don't now what to start with....

don't do dual exhaust on an inline six. You'll get a pretty awful sound compared to going to a nice big single exhaust. There may be companies like flowmaster that make catbacks for your truck already. You may be able to replace components pre-catalytic converter, but remember that to stay road legal you must run a cat.

Turbos are both exhaust modifications and great sounding. So, install a huge turbo on your 4.9L straight six and get a burly sound out the exhaust pipe in exchange.

ok....i'll try to explain my knowledge of vehicle....i know the basic mechanics to how an engine runs, what exhaust systems do, other systems, etc.....but i have little/no knowledge when it comes to modifications....saying "Turbo" means nothing to me....although, i ask because i want to learn.... i wish i knew how to do all this stuff myself, but i'll never be able to if i don't ask....so, try to keep it basic...you don't need to go into why my engine works, just the modification dept. needs some explaination with me....thanks

Edit: well, i just looked up turbos....makes a lot of sense.....it doesn't really sound like something i could do myself though....or am i wrong?....

My 85 Subaru sounded like the worlds largest and loudest snowblower. Nobody was afraid of it.

No, you probably couldn't, nor should you attempt to unless you have lots of time, money and patience.

so i would obviously have to go to a modification shop.....that could be very pricy....how much do turbos cost?...what kind of effect would a turbo have on my exhaust sound....what i'm looking for is that nice roar when i pound the gas.....is that something done with a turbo, or an exhaust job?
