| Most talented Christian guitarist? Just wondering whatyou guys thought. And please remember, this isn't "The cutest Christian guitarist", or "Your favorite Christian guitarist", but who you think has the most talent in that field. Mine would be Tyler Burkum or Paul Colman.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |

Tyler Burkum does well in the context of his band (Audio A) and Paul Colman is a good front man, but I never thought of him as the "guitarist". Many Audio A fans still believe the Barry Blair was a better guitarist, an opinion which I might agree on. In fact, there are a lot of guitarists who sound great in their band and the style of music they play. But, in answer to the question, it would have to be Phil. He can do it all - even if he was by himself! |

| I think everyone needs to watch this to understand why I picked John Petrucci; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h81PggfE8I

| Brian Millar. Not the most talented, but i am always amazed by his creativity, you can't recreate staple. I'll think of more yet, Jason Truby is crossing my mind.

And Phil Keaggy is the answer to this thread. | Actually i think you are confused Rudess claims to be Jewish not Petrucci, just to clarify this is from the Dream Theater FAQ:
The following was confirmed by Jordan Rudess on his message board, in a post made by one of the members asking about JR's religion:
James LaBrie - Christian
James has said in many interviews that he is Christian, and actively practices the religion. There is a (no longer available) interview from HM Magazine that had him talk in-depth about his beliefs, and the lyrical meaning of the song Blind Faith, with the interviewer and John Petrucci.
John Myung - Christian
This is as much confirmation as we can get: he said in an interview once that Jesus is his biggest influence in life. Anyone with more information please contact us.
John Petrucci - Catholic
In the above-mentioned interview with James, he stated that he is a catholic and actively practices the religion. This is also evident in some of his songs, particularly Scarred and Voices.
Mike Portnoy - Jewish
In a Ytsejam.com "10 Quick Ones" interview, Mike said that he is Jewish, but doesn't practice the religion. Jordan Rudess also confirmed this in the message board post mentioned above.
Jordan Rudess - Jewish
In the message board post above, Jordan stated that he is Jewish... see the comments below for some more information.
However this may not be entirely accurate in 2006.
Anyway back to the original pint of the thread i vote:
Numero uno: Phil Keaggy, that guy is insane
Close behind come, not all for technical proffeciancy but for awesome "feel":
David Bainbridge(?) (Iona)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Neal Morse (Solo/Transatlantic/Spocks Beard)

| Phil Keaggy is awesome...
Fingerstyle guitarist Doyle Dykes (one of Taylor's big artists) is an amazing Christian player...watching him is absolutely mind-blowing... http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/t5/feature/TV.aspx
Ummm....and Don Francisco's main guitarist Mike Banta is also a pretty talented guitarist (he does some pretty sweet rock/country/blues stuff on some of DF's albums)...Mike also does some Keaggy-esq instrumental stuff...

| for acoustic stuff: probably either Phil Keaggy, both for his talent and his creativity, or Dennis Agajanian, who is an amazing flatpicker.
for electric stuff: maybe Tyler Berkum from Audio A, but I think I would say Thomas Daugherty from The Elms.
