| He is my absolute favorite. I've seen him live 4 or 5 times. Of course I am not sure where he stands exactly on his belief. I heard him give props to God for his abilities and blessing he has received but I am uncertain if he has a saving knowledge. I sure hope he does. I would love to spend eternity listening to him play worship music to Jesus. But again, technically I think he is the best in the world. Certainly the best I have ever heard.

| Satan believes in God but does that make him a christian?? Seriously.. You can believe in God and even Jesus but unless they profess him as their saviour and have made that change in their heart then it holds no water.

| In my response to being better than phil keaggy go to myspace.com/jacobstratton. Am I better than Phil? I think so but our styles are different so there is no way to judge. He is good no doubt just like Jimmy page is good. But people hold him as a guitar god as well and I believe that is a misplaced title. He's a guitar hero just as keaggy.

| No, I agree that Mustaine's the best, but I also think John Petrucci (Dream Theatre) is pretty amazing. |

| I personally find all these threads to be rather juvenile - kind of like "who do you think is the most coolest *chest thump*?"
there is no criteria to determine what makes a musician "best". and likewise, I've heard of musicians who are Christians, but what criteria determines a "Christian guitarist" versus, say, a "Guitarist who goes to church on Christmas and Easter"? or a "Guitarist who goes to a Catholic Mass out of guilt but has never read the scriptures"?
the only good that I've ever seen come out of these "best _____" lists is perhaps learning some new names so I can check them out.
not to be insulting to our genre, but have there really been that many groundbreaking Christian musicians out there? for the most part a Christian musician has focused more on CONTENT rather than quality. and probably rightly so - are we, as Christian musicians, to promote ourselves, or to promote Christ? but spend five minutes on a CCM radio station, then flip over to a secular station and tell me with a straight face that the music was comparable in terms of quality and musicianship. are there talented blokes flicking the strings? sure. have any of them broken new ground or been recognized as pioneers on the instrument? most - if not all - have just been regurgitating a secular musical style with Christian buzzwords to sell records.
sorry for the rant, feel free to go back to your "well Phil Keaggy is the most bestest, Jimmy Hendrix said so" posts and what not. |

| You're very right. This thread is getting very old. Every once and a while it's brought back with the exact same guitarists being nominated; it's an endless cycle. I think it is time I close this thread . . .

| I agree. This thread is becoming a bit too redundant.
So, unless another mod objects, I'm going to close this thread.

| There was discussion about it in the mod forum, but I think it's just fine that it dies. Let is start fresh when someone makes a new one.
