| which is the best? hey ya'll, i haven't been on for a l-o-n-g time and i miss it! anyway the reason for this thread is that i'm hoping to get a new guitar soon. (the one i've had for the past 1 1/2 years i've been playing was really cheap) i like Epiphone, Ovation, Ibanez, and Fender. but i don't know a lot about the different ones those companies make. let me know which one(s) ya'll think is the best. (unless there's another one that you really really really think is better) i'm hoping to spend no more than $500.
Thanx!

| I would be first in line to recommend a Fender Standard Telecaster or Stratocaster, that is, if you like the single-coil sound. If you like the humbucking sound, go for a Les Paul or an SG...... I don't know if Epiphone does a good job of being truly Les Paulish, but Gibson backs up their work with warranties.......

| For under 500$ I would recommend you look at Dean guitars. More bank for you buck than any of the others mentioned.

| I like Yamahas myself for acoustic. I like their deeper tone.
This model here is the one below the one I have, but it's still nice and it just meets your budget. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/.../base_id/42700

| I'm not sure if your looking to get an electric or acoustic. For a budget of $500, you can get a Taylor Big Baby and have some money left over to buy some extra strings and lunch.

| A Taylor Big Baby is probably going to sound better than any of the brands you said. Taylor is awesome at being consistent. All the other brands are okay and every once in a while you'll run across a beauty. A guitar that's gonna sound twice what you paid for it. All Taylor guitars are beautys though. That's why people like them so much.

| Yes thats right. The Baby isn't (in my opinion) worth the money. The Big Baby I think is a great guitar. Well worth the cash.

| Acording to taylors 2002 catalog my andswer is "kind-of" Baby taylors are 3/4 size and the big baby is 15/16 size, not full size, but darn close!

| one of my friends has a taylor 900 series with the cutout, and it is a very beautiful guitar.
for durability, and tone though, i'd have to go with an OLD takamine 12 string. Something about the old, aged wood and the 12 strings. Some of the guild jumbo's sound incredible as well.
I being broke must wait for those, and my gibson. *cries* |

| I'm currently negotiating on a brand new Taylor 314ce. I'm not sure if and when I'll get it, but I'm praying The Lord will provide. Even if I don't get it, I won't be dissapointed. It's tough negotiating because I have to spend extra to get this guitar. I'm negotiating with my wife, she wants a new dog. Ah the price we have to pay for a great sound.
