I wonder, what could be so painful about dying. I mean, what does it feel like to have your life slipping away. Can you actually feel it, or do you just know?

I suppose it depends upon where you spend eternity. Choose wisely.

Depends on how you die - I watched someone die once, it looked painfilled even on the morphine.

If you want a clinical perspective, I can certainly give you that. As a registered nurse, I have seen many, many people of all ages die. I have seen people in excrutiating pain as they took their last breath. I have seen people slip peacefully into slumber. I have seen the terror in the eyes of people who have overdosed right at the moment when they realize that they made a fatal mistake and there is no turning back. A lot of people with terminal illnesses are in denial right up to the point of their death. My sister had terminal cancer, but she didn't really believe that she was going to die until she woke up and saw everyone standing around her bed. She was terrified.

I've watched people die in the ER. You shouldn't look into their eyes though, that's what makes it stick.

I want it to stick. I hope I never forget any of those faces. If I am with a person in their last moment, I want to give Christ every opportunity to use me.

I want to wipe them from my memory. One of my patients haunts me in my dreams sometimes

He died after arriving from a motorcycle wreck. His peaceful face, which was bloody and battered still haunts me.
