| Ok, so it's okay as long as the head has less ohms than the cab?

EDIT: Hmm, I see that the combo only runs at 4 ohms, while the head runs at 4, 8 or 16 ohms. | Not quite true. There are internal connections for 8 ohm outputs and maybe 16. I mean you would have to add the jack, but its a very simple mod.

And yeah, you can use it as a head or as a combo. That's what I plan on doing, as soon as I get a cab to go with it. | Ive heard its a weber signature 8. I own a weber signature 8 as well, and have swapped them out before for testing purposes...
Its the same. No audible sound difference at any level I could find.
I got my combo for 100, and personally, I like the combo.
The valve Junior tends to be fairly dark and the 8 inch speaker partially balances that out imo.

| yeah, I love how dark mine is, and I want the bigger speakers to really bring that out.
And there is a connection in there for an 8ohm jack, the valve junior is turning into the amp analogue of Chesh's infamous "MIM strat"...

| I am going to add a bright switch in c3 and a gain switch. I just need to get the parts. However, I think that needs to wait till I can walk to the electronics store.

I've got the gain switch mod in mine...I'm not so impressed. As it is, mine is modded for a little too much gain, so if I ever stop being lazy I'm probably gonna make it a bright switch, and bring the front end gain down a little.

| I probably won't to the gain switch mod. For slightly higher gain, I'll probably get a nice pedal, or maybe mod my DS1. Or if I can find a small enough high gain amp, I could just buy that. But I'm starting to lean towards a Boss ME-50. I've heard it has some nice effects, so instead of spending more money on a POD for the amp models and stuff that I may not need. I dunno, I guess I'll see.

Which gain mod did you do? (I know of 3 that can be done, well 2 that are truly gain, and one thats a high/low jack switch)
And I figure, why not? as long as I leave all switches with the possibility of going back to the stock sound. Quote:

I am not big on multi effects period so... I am no guru on them.

| Most of the mods mentioned are insanely simple.

I wired a switch across where you would put the cap for the bright mod. It skips around the resistor for higher gain, but I haven't ever used it. I also switched out some of the input resistors for higher impedance and high input level. Right now I've got a 1meg resistor to ground and a 22k resistor in the signal path. I'll probably halve the resistor to ground, and make the 22k something a little bit higher. I figured since I've already got the switch on there, I'm gonna make it a bright switch, especially since one of my guitars is really dark. Quote:

This is a great amp to just jump in the water with (not litterally of course). THe circuit is simpler than most effects boxes, and most of the mods are perfectly laid out on various websites. Although, if you've not messed around with guitar re-wiring or something simple like that, I'd suggest against doing these mods right away.

| Ok, I'd start with that. And do some reading. These amps really are incredibly simple, so it's not unfeasible to do your first amp work on them.
