A guitarist standing in front of an amp hears something totally different than a close mic, too.

I close mic my amp live, and monitor through the monitors, but when I record the mic goes all over the place. I belong to the Page School of Mic Placement....I just need more of them...

thesteve, your amp mixed with a couple delays, an octave down and a big muff would make the ultimate doom metal rig....just sayin'...

Unfortunately, I don't really have the option to listen to my guitar through the monitors at church...this sunday I'm going to throw the 2x12" on top of the 4x12" and only running the head though the 2x12". It'll be at head level so hopefully I can hear it better than the 4x12" (which is currently pointined stage right because it's too loud) but at a lower volume.

[off topic rant]...man...I keep telling my church we need a new monitor setup, but instead they just bought V-drums which means they can run the monitors even quieter on stage since the V-drums are so much quieter than th ereal thing...[/rant]

i think for now ill just get a stand alone amp, no stack or anything, and mic it or whatever i need to do. Ive been checking out the peavey classic 30, and i also found the peavey 112 combo amp which looks good as far as i can tell...is that a good amp?

Is that the name of it?

I'm thinking that it's part of the Transtube series, which are supposed to be among the better tube emulators on the market.

I'd seriously consider yourself lucky. Without knowing anything more about your setup it sounds like you have some people running sound who know what they are doing.

i have one of the transtube that is 25 watts that i use for practice when i don't want to take a good amp. It sounds good, most people will probably ever notice a difference.

they know what they're doing...the problem is that the in place system, at least the way its currently setup, is inadequate for the size of band we have.

Ah, the Valvekings are all tube. Very nice from everything I've heard about them. A Valveking would be a nice choice.

you would be VERY happy with that amp. Pretty good cleans and gret distortion, and I would bet it would be pretty loud.
