| Elder Scrolls IV: OBLIVION Ok, I've looked through several pages of game listings in this forum and couldn't find anything that was anywhere near recent (save my own thread from several years back speaking about the new pictures released when we first learned it was being made). I now own the game and just got a video card powerful enough to handle it. I cannot believe my eyes. Everything is so realistic. I was just walkng through a forest last night and randomly came accross some very real looking deer. They looked up at me and hopped off (just like I've seen them do so many times in real life). I am personally astounded. |

| I've played the game and beat it a couple of months ago. But don't let that fool you into thinking that I've seen everything about it... I did all the main quests, all the guild quests and a lot of misc quests but still there is so much left to discover. It's so well done, and the graphics are just incredible! ANd having the NPC's grow stronger each time you level up just keeps the challenge in the game, I'd say it's even tougher to do the main quest if you have a strong character (unless you learn to enchant wisely ) than if you have a noob one. But still, I had lot's of fun with this game, it's freaking huge, after about 100 hours there is still much I didn't see of the map, caves, houses, dungeons... you are in for a long time of exploring and fun!

| The game is completely unbelievable. I played 25 hours the week I bought it, and I was actually kind of busy that week. I just spent every moment of free time playing Oblivion. I'm almost through the main quest with my first character, but once I finish with him, I'll start again with another character. I'm determined to unlock all the achievements on the 360 version.

| Can you cheat like in III? (Make potion with cheap ingredients, sell for tons of money. Make intelligence potions. Use them to make better ones. Etc. Make potion of strength that makes you immortal for something like 4 years of game time.)

It killed my desktop when I tried it on that (512 RAM, 128mb Geforce 5200FX; ouch).
Hmm...

| I just got a 256mb Geforce 6600. That really made up for my 512 RAM. Though the graphics aren't quite as well defined, it is still better than pretty else any other game out there. Your laptop should be able to do quite well. |

Merchantilism makes certain that we can't buy something from them and sell it back for more than we bought it. So we literally have to EARN money this time and not just "make" it.
As for the potions, I finally got them to the point that they would last for a century, I felt that that was a fair accomplishment. I had lightknight shields and everything. I wasn't just immortal, vivec couldn't attack me without instantly killing himself. The best part is the type of spells you can now cast with so much mana. I swear, if it worked that way, I could have wiped out every creature in the outdoors in the entire continent... But alas, there are limits to spell making. |

| I've never played the 4th one...
but I have a question about the 3rd one. I've got it for the Xbox... and I don't know if it's because I don't know what I'm doing... or if it's because the game sucks... but I can't seem to kill anything. I mean... those stupid crabs takes me about 30 swipes before it will die. It's like 95% of my hits are misses. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just hard to make contact during a fight?

When you start out, you can't kill anything because you haven't gained enough experience (thus everything misses). As you get 'better', you start missing a lot less and become much more powerful. I worked on archery a while in that game and basically got no-where. I like games that take more outright 'skill' rather than simply having more 'experience' or having a better ranking.

I'm only a level 6, and I'm about to finish the main quest. If you're good, you're good.

I just tried it out again (my roommate has it), and I'm just scraping by on minimum video settings. I like what I see, but really, my laptop can't do it justice. I'll have to wait till I can upgrade my PC. I guess. I don't need another game taking up time anyway.

| What quality does the game rate your computer at? All I got was a medium. But that's plenty.
By the way, VERY nice to see you around, Ben. |

By the way, VERY nice to see you around, Ben. | It said there was an error in estimating performance, and it defaulted to medium (which lagged like crazy). I turned things down from there, and didn't get too much better, and, to tell you the truth, the mouse lag is what bothered me the most. I can't stand mouse lag.

| About the only game out right now I would be interested in getting. But until it is below $30 I won't even think about getting it.
