i find that i vary my EQ setting on my carvin SX200c based on how loud i've got it turned up.

note that this amp has active controls, so it boosts the freq when it's set to anything above 5, and cuts at anything below 5.

at low volumes, less than three on the volume dial, i tend to have it set to:

gain: 8.25
bass: between 7.5 and 6, depends on what i want that day.
mid: 6.6 and yes, i play metal.
trebel: 7.5
presence: 5

when i turn it up, a huge change in sound occurs at around 5 or 6 on the volume dial, i'm guesing this is enough volume to really drive the speakers properly.

bass: 9, often 10
mid: 6.6 (unchanged)
treble: 5
prresence: 2

the major changes in the treble and presence is to keep things from getting to harsh, which happens fast with this amp. also, when cranked, the maxed out bass really blends with the mids, so it's not like all you can hear is the bass.

even using different EQ settings for different volume settings, it sounds much better at high volume, like a completely different amp. to the point were i can get some of the tones i want.

I don't even use it for solos very often. I like the sound I get with the bridge pickup for nearly everything I play. I DO, however, use my neck pickup for playing clean, more subdued songs, because I can get it to sound very acoustic-like. Gotta love those PAFs.

It may be our difference in pickups, but I find the bridge to almost always be far too harsh. Just today I found a setting with the bridge pickup that I actually liked, but for the most part, I don't use it too much. I find that I get more control over the middle pickup, adding treble to taste.
You wouldn't have any clips of your stuff recorded, would you? I'd be interested in hearing it.

My neck pup is a DiMarzio PAF Pro. My bridge is a DiMarzio SuperDistortion.

If I had a recording that sounded good, I'd let you hear it. I don't have a good method of recording right now, though. Soon, when I get a band together, I'll get you something.

I have to admit it. I'm addicted to metal.

Bass: 10
Mids: 0
Presence: 0
Treble: 6

My amp doesn't really scoop out the mids too much, though. It's really a nice sound.
