I need a new amp.

I need a new amp. Price range is about $400 or so. I'm looking for something with a lot of power, and nice metal type distortion. I've been considering a Line 6 Spider II, but I don't know. Just give me some suggestions.

save up a couple hundred more and get a B52... i gots one, i get some nice metal tones... umm... in the 400 range you're looking at an SS amp, don't no much about the Spider II but it is SS... that being said a lot of metal bands play through ss amps because of their harsh tones, ex. Dimebag... now i'm looking at the bands in your sig and all of them use tube.. some people swear by tube modeling, but some people don't like anything that isn't the original... btw none of those in your sig are really metal, most just hard rock or screamo.. ...

I never said I was going for the tones of the bands in my sig.

I like harsh tones, so an SS would be the kind of amp I'd buy. I don't really like tube amps.

that's borderline blasphemous... but for metal tones you need a high end SS amp... but a line 6 modeling amp can't be that bad... i don't think anyways..

I've heard good things about Line 6. That's why I mentioned. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Get a Peavey Valveking. SS isn't really what you are thinking of, it's more like a Mesa Rectifier sound.

If you want the abrasive SS only randall will get you there. Some of the RG heads are under 400. I would look and see if maybe there were a titan or cyclone under 400 on the Ebay

As far as Peavey tube amps, you can get some great metal sounds out of them. I wouldnt go the valveking route though, not aggressive enough. I like the ultra, 5150, and triple X. I think I have seen the combo versions of these under 400 on the Ebay.

As far as mesa rectifiers, they'll get you a good metal tone but there a little dark for my tastes. The 5150 and triple x have awesome metal sounds and typically dont cost as much as mesa gear. I also dont think you can get the full potential out of a rectifier without a tube upgrade.

Peavey Triumph, Yamaha T50C, and many Mesa combos you may be able to nab.

If you odn't like the onboard distortion, also try them out with a Boss Metal Zone.

I think a ss would get you the wrong kind of harsh tones lol. I htink a b52 would be perfect.

I wasn't really sure about the Valveking. I was looking for amps earlier and it was recommended to me as being a very versatile amp. (I think.)

I don't think that Akaukul has been playing long enough to gig, so he doesn't really need something as big as the B52, and those are more than $400, right?

For $400 if you go used you have alot of options for a great tube amp. (I know you said you didn't tube amps, but I think you might be a bit confused about what they can do) I would highly suggest getting a peavey valveking. Unless I win the lottery or something, that is my next amp. I can bet that it will be what you want
