| Perhaps the odds of discovering intelligent life are small, but I don't see why the odds of it existing are necessarily small in relation to the odds of there being any other life at all.
From a Christian perspective, if we grant that God could have created life on other planets, then there's no reason I can think of why He c/wouldn't have made intelligent life.
From an evolutionary perspective, it seems that the odds of life developing at all are ridiculously small compared to the odds of intelligent life evolving from single-cell life.
Regardless, it seems to me that if you grant the possibility of there being life on other planets, you necessarily also grant the possibility of that life being intelligent. It seems.
