A properly maintained PC can be just as secure as a Mac. I haven't gotten a virus in years. I haven't gotten a noticable spyware infestation in at least a year or two. I might pick up a few things in a Adaware scan every now and then, but that's all. Just using Firefox and common sense helped the most. |

| I havent seen anyone mention this one very important fact:
MACS DONT GET VIRUSES!
Or Spyware, adware, or any-other-ware's for that matter.
And as for crashing: more RAM will solve that problem for any computer (unless its a virus...but macs dont get those).

| And one more thing...
Mac's are hot. Like...they are the Fossil or Rolex of computers. Or...oakleys...whatever you want. I think my mac is good looking...haha.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.

The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.

Just because it's never happened to you doesn't mean it never happens period. As Patrick said, a properly maintained PC can be just as secure as a Mac.

You can sell anything (see Linspire's Oooff! ). That's not my point. You can certainly pay for certain distros of Linux if you like, but that doesn't discount that there are still tons of other distros that are absolutely free (and still the best, IMHO).
| Well, the makers describe it differently. According to them FEDORA has the following differences from Redhat:
Fedora is not "Stable, reliable, and broadly supported."
Fedora has no ISV or hardware certifications.
Fedora runs on fewer architectures
Plus a somewhat different view of updates. But hey, why believe them: They only write the software. Quote: |

| I higly recommend AVAST as an anti-virus. It catches most attempts at spyware intrusion IME. I also find spybot better than adaware personally; but that's pretty anticdotal. Here's links to a bunch: http://antivirus.about.com/gi/dynami...xt%3Dmacintosh

| In response to the original poster, I'd recommend finding out if there's a Mac store near you. Or if you know someone who has a newer Mac, see if you can try it out. Find out for yourself whether you even like it or not rather than depending on the internet facts, or articles, or opinions. There's too much bias one way or the other, myself included. See for yourself what you prefer.
In any case, I believe I'll step out now before this goes further along the path of the usual Mac/PC back and forth pointlessness, and before I contribute to that anymore myself. |

| I've had the mac I'm on right now for a little over five years, it's crashed twice. First time I'm not really sure why, but it may have had something to do with a random game I installed (but we didn't lose any information on the computer), and the second was back in like January, because I had about 100 megabytes left and I forced it to burn a CD. But right now it's working (although the battery lasts around half an hour) and it's decent speed wise, not much against my new iBook, but not too bad. |

| I think it would be safe to say that with a fresh install of each OS (IOW, each with the default security and security apps and no third party software), that one would be much more likely to get viruses, adware, spyware, etc. on XP than OS X.
But if you were to use additional anti-virus and anti-malware software, even the free available software, and just use common sense when browsing the web and downloading files, it's very likely you would never encounter viruses, serious adware, etc. Quote: |

Even with a single button mouse, all you need to do is hold CTRL while clicking. |

| In regards to what 2+2=5 said, I have to one up on the iBook. It has to be the most solid laptop I've used.
